I just got home from iraq, and seen my new baby sitting in the drive, 95 gsx, went to start it and Id get a click, turn key a few more times and still would get one click, finally after 4 or 5 turns it would start up, once started it ran great. I was thinking that maybe the starter or starter solinoid is gone/ going bad.
I turned boost up to about 15-17 psi, drove around for a while, and noticed my battery gauge was in the red and it wasnt charging... I looked at the battery and it was old, soIi replaced it, with one of the same size, same cca and everything.
In doing so I think I may have lost my tune??? The guy I bought the car from told my father that it had been having starting issues, and that he had pulled the battery and let it sit for a couple weeks, said when he put a freshly charged battery in the car it started right up and gave him no problems.
When I replaced the battery, I went ahead and replaced the altenator as well.
I checked all my wiring and belt tension and everything checked good.
I started the car and she fired right up, I drove her around for a bit and she had a bad studder when hitting boost, then after 5500 things settled down... Did i loose my tune??? Immediately I baby her back to the garage and in the process noticed my lights started to dim, and then she died, I had my wife jump it and I drove it some more and then it did again...jumped for about 30 minutes and still died only after a few minutes of driving trying to get it home, I have DSMlink v3, but I dont know how to tune so I didnt wanna touch it. Does any one have any ideas why its not charging, and any imput on if the charging system would have givin me that bad studder. Hopefully the battery was too low for the fuel pump?As of now the car is sitting at my house, and im back to Iraq. Im trying to find out what the problem is upon return so i can fix her, and if i did loose my tune, was thinking bout a 20g turbo and some cams... but hopefully I didnt loose anything.
thank you in advance

Sounds like the battery isn't getting charged so it can't maintain the power necessary to run all the engine electrical (eg. like ignition). Even a new alternator won't put out unless there is voltage on it's "L" terminal (black-yellow wire on connector). The voltage is supplied by either the "generator relay" or the dash charge light. If both don't work, no alt output.

um i kinda get what your saying, but dont. what would be the best way to check that wire, and if there is no power to it, what do i need to do. i can hit it with a multimeter, but that means disconnecting it. is there power going to it when engine isnt running? like say i just leave the key on? cause thats a tight squeeze past the manifold and i dont wanna get burnt. and how would i check the dash charge light?

Well first I'd measure the battery voltage with the engine running. If it's not over 13.5V your alt isn't putting out.

The charge light (battery icon) should be on with the key on but engine not started yet assuming the 10A "guage" fuse is good.

And if you pull the alt connector you should have power on that black-yellow wire with the key on but engine not started yet (but the charge light will then not work).

and this sounds like a plausable fix, i cant give feedback because im not home, but when i had the engine running and hookedd up it had a major draw, and was dropping. it was at liek 10.6 or somethin like that.
10a gauge fuse has not been checked, guage worked, replaced alt now it doesnt.
note: will be first thing to check.

and say i dont have power in the b/y wire, then what?

Then neither the "generator relay" or the dash charge light are working (or a wiring problem exists). Be advised that a large number of "new and rebuilt" alts sold at auto stores are bad which could easily be your problem. I hear this constantly from people. PM me if you want to know the by far worst one.

What version of ecm does it have and what size injectors does it have. When I first got my car I thought it had v3 on it but it was actually v2.5, then my terminals went bad and I lost my tune when I replaced them. It shuttered really bad when into boost because it was running so rich. Also have you checked it for any boost leaks?
