I own a 99 eclipse gs. I lowered it with the Eibach pro kit. Now my ride is stiffer, but i feel every bump and the ride is kind of bouncy. Its time for me to get new shocks, but i dont which shocks are good for the daily drive so i dont feel Every bump on the road...any help?

from what i hear about the gr2's varies. so thats why i stay away. from one person i heard for 3 years they were fine and a nice ride. from someone else i head they sucked and blew like in the first month. so its your call on that. i think i would stick with the llumina's because i know for a fact they are nice and th ride is awesome. i can't comment on the agx, because i don't know to much about them. hope i helped you out

The bounciness and nasty ride quality you're now experiencing has nothing to do with dampers - stiffness, quality or even existence thereof; the problem is that the Prokits have lowered the car to the point it is bouncing along on the front bumpstops. Front ProKits have a spring rate of ~330lb/in, way too low for the resultant ride height - at that height the rate needs to be at least 500lb/in to avoid the bumpstop pogo-ing.

The closest thing to a tolerable band-aid is to fit Konis, as they have a shorter body than other dampers, thus allowing a little more travel before hitting the bumpstops. You'll still hit the bumpstops, just not quite as often.

I have a prokit and tockico non-adjustables and I have no issues with the bumpstops. It's stiffer but not bad at all.

Okay so questions for you.....

are you sayin the gr2s were only good for 3 years with that one person....or after 3 years you just stopped hearing about it or something? As for the other person's gr-2s that went out in the first month, were they used or new?

As the person who started this thread, I'm shoppin for shocks...I have the Eibach prokit springs waiting in my trunk. I am on a budget so I'm not tryin to spend no 300+ bux on this. It's all mostly for looks and to simply get new shocks...the ones on my car haven't been changed ever yet. So a few more tips/info on these KYB GR-2s would be great. Thanks.

Did you read what ACM wrote? There could very well be nothing wrong with your shocks. You simply don't have enough suspension travel. If you don't listen and think about what he wrote, you could very well spend the $300 (or whatever you are willing to spend) and end up with exactly the same thing as if you did nothing.

Sometimes the answer to a posted question is something along the lines of "you asked the wrong question." Sometimes this is mere thread-jacking and sometimes it's because you actually asked the wrong question. Yes, it's a pain trying to figure this out. Welcome to the internet, where signal-to-noise ratio is measured using a really really really small ruler. But in this case, you got at least one reply from a person who knows what he's talking about.

If you're talkin to me, I never said anything was wrong w/my current shocks. As for the guy that started this thread, what he's experiencing is normal & doesn't mean his current stock shocks are out. Many people simply want to get new shocks to get w/their new springs....not really a new concept.

Yes, I read what ACM had to say.

No, I don't believe the "wrong" questions were asked.

Oh yeah...and what ACM says may be right, but yes, shocks DO play a role in the ride.

No more "thread-jacking". Thanks.

I had my struts checked, and there are no leaks. What I was getting at was because of my new springs are the old struts still good in being able to with stand the change in ride height.

nope, the pressure from the spring will slowly make them burst. then you will be riding bumpy until you get some better ones

Eclipse997,

The bottom line is those Eibachs are going to make for a stiffer ride no matter what strut you put under them. They are performance springs, not show/comfort springs.

Got a little test for you.

Take 4 small zip-ties, reach through the springs and put one around each damper shaft - make sure they're reasonably tight, to the point it's difficult to move them with just one finger.

Now, go ride around for a while, pick the roads that you feel deliver the most unpleasant ride. Some time later, have a look for the zip-ties - where are they on the damper shaft ?
