EGT Temps..

Post what you decide to go with Blitz, I am interested to see some different water-cooling setups. I have talked to another guy on 2gnt and he said he was planning on making another write-up with fittings and everything for water-cooling turbos. I am not sure when that will be done though.

I'll let you know how mine goes too. I'll probably have to give in and buy all the fittings sometime early this summer.

I'll post pics and possibly a write-up for you guys (Mike in particular). But it may not be for some time. I am planning to do this when I send my stuff out for ceramic coating in 5 weeks or so. I figured I'm going to do everything at once..

Right now 3 of my lower Manifold--->head bolts snapped on me. So I need to tap those out. I would actually say I have some sort of exhaust leak due to this. But I don't mind, it's not going to hurt anything and I rarely get on it anyways. I'm going to pick up some 10 gauge steel studs from ARP so it won't happen again. I also figured I mine as well get my I/C piping re-done with all aluminum bends by a speed shop. Replacing all the worm clamps I have now with T-Bolt clamps and re-beading the ends of my charge pipes for a strong seal. Going to get those chromed along with alot of other parts I have powdercoated in silver. The engine scheme will be anodized red/ chrome now.

So I'm going to finalize some things I'm not too happy with. Primarily heat control. The manifold, exhaust housing, and 2 feet of my downpipe will be ceramic coated with the Xtreme Sterling too. I'll tap into my coolant to cool my turbo also. Will also mount and chrome my heatshield. Finally I'm going to cut and weld 3 bungs into the downpipe for my sensors and o2, and weld a support bracket on the downpipe to bolt onto an area I found for this. Exhaust manifodl will also be tapped in the 1st cylinder port for my EGT gauge. So yeah, lots of updates coming soon!

Hopefully I'll notice a difference in engine temps and overall spool time. I think that would be effected by these changes more then anything...

I'll be sure to post before and after pics, along with some temperture readings (hopefully) and possibly some write-ups. Time to get this shit done! :thumb:

If air is leaking out before the manifold it will eat that gasket like there's no tomorrow. The bottoms of the runner seals will be gone and your spool time will suffer horribly. Learned that one the hard way.

Yeah that's kind of what's going on I'm guessing. I got the MLS manifold gasket from Hahn. So it should hold up OK. It's ridiculously strong.

Does this sound right for the manifold studs? Probably what I'm going with..

ARP stainless steel studs 10 pack M8 x 1.25 x 45mm 400-8013

So Josh, what exactly did you ahev to replace due to the exhaust leak on the manifold? 3 of the middle lower bolts are gone on me. I honestly can't see where there would be any major part damage, other then performance dropping an extent..

Basically, should I worry about driving my car for the next 5 weeks?

Spool time will begin suffering more and more over time. I haven't seen the exhaust mani. gasket that you have, but I don't imagine there are any out there that can withstand those temperatures too long.

As for the studs, I've lost a couple in my day, luckily when I pulled the manifold off, they were still sticking out of the head maybe 1/4 inch(the length of the main flange on the exhaust manifold) so I could use pliers to twist them out without having to re-tap. Pull the manifold off and see what you've got to work with. If they do have to be drilled, you'll know to purchase a helicoil kit along with the studs.

Luckily, I'm in about the same boat you were. 2/3 of the studs are poking out ever so faintly. Enough for me to get some locking pliers, or vice grips out with. There is one that is really in there though. I'm going to need to get that tapping kit and see if I can get the sucker out. Man am I glad I used ALOT of anti-seize on the bolts! Should help out some. What I plan to do is soak the bolts in PB blaster over a couple days also. Hopefully that will free them up some.

So worse comes to worse, I may need a new gasket, and of course new studs?

I went ahead and replaced all my studs and got all new nuts too. I can't remember the site I got them from though, a quick search and you'll find it. It was something -carr.. Anyways they had studs, nuts and helicoil kits. I think my bill was around 30 for everything.

I have one of those MLS exhaust manifold gaskets too... I must say, they're quite indestructable. I can't imagine them being damaged by a leak. But still, you should get it taken care of as soon as possible.
