I'm almost done wiht the car bulid up. (a lil tipsy so xcuse the typing) :)

I was runnign the vaccum hoses and decided to go the non emissions friendly rounte adn remove the non nesecarry lines. per taboo speed shoop.

is it ok if i just tap off the egr holes. i really am sick of this car now and dont feel liek taking another wrench to it.

block the vaccum lines and make your own block off plate. Its fairly easy. A temporary solution is to cut a soda can and make it flat. Using the gasket as a template make a block off plate and your set. I didnt have a egr block off when I removed emissions and my car would stall randomly. If you dont know how to block off the vaccum lines just take pieces of hose and make a U shape.

There are purposes to this modification if you tryed searching the topic. But that is not an acceptable answer, so I'll list some advantages.
-you clean up the appearance of the engine bay by not having a mess of vacuum lines.

-you are able to get rid of the EGR which...
-is one of the culprits for that Idle Surge we all love so much
-it introduces dirty, noncombustable air into the chamber (yaya, so it lowers the temps, but i still would prefer to not have that in my chamber).
-yes it saves on gas milage, that is if it actually works, but this site is about performance correct? or gas milage? My car is a weekend fun car, I don't care about gas milage. If I did, I wouldn't be modding it, and would drive a del sol instead.

-this mod also rids of all those vacuum lines. so for those who do not do leak tests often, you could be running around with a vacuum leak and not even know it. This minimizes the amount of hoses that could possibly spring a leak.

And don't just plug the lines. It's 2 bolts that take a minute to remove. Just do it right. Remove it (1 minute of your time), take the little gasket on it, trace it onto some steal or aluminum or whatever. Cut it out, drill 2 holes for the screws, and walla you have a block-off plate. If that's too much, www.qprinc.com sells some blinging block-off plates with everything needed to do the install including gasket, hardware, EVERYTHING.

Good luck with it man!!!

Can't much see them through the hood.

Unless your surge is caused by one of dozens of other failed subsytems or pieces of hardware or electornics.

This was the best reason for blocking it off toward the end of the last century. These days, cars burn so clean that the exhaust gas is essentially clean.

Eh, most of us are also up for extended engine life.

Eh. Insignificant.

You are right about that part.

again, i have my reasons, you have yours. Fine by me. You make your own call based on your situation. Do you want an engine bay that looks like my 2g(top) that looks like a hose bomb went off, or do you want a bay that is easy to work in because everything is simplised(like the bottom pic of my 1g with all unneccessary nonsense removed)? Plus if you remove it, you can lower the location of the battery as I did in my 1g, making it that much easier to work inside the engine bay.

Defiant, you always make good points. You're reasons for keepin it are perfectly legit. But I prefer my route for my application.

Again, you all choose what you want. Doesn't affect me none if you decide to keep it! Good luck with it dude.

Doesn't mean I don't want a clutter free, easy to work in engine bay.

The reason I have my egr blocked slong with my fiav blocked, and isc blocked. But that is another topic. But I do all I can to prevent Idle Surge because I hate that sh!t

Wipe your finger inside your exhaust manifold real quick. That black crap all over your fingers, well I'd prefer that to stay in my exhaust system, rather then reintroduce it into my intake manifold.

If you are reffering to higher EGT temps. My EGT's don't reach a temp that would be considered alarming or dangerous at idle or cruising speeds. Sure I push it when I'm racing, but in that scenario the EGR wouldn't be doing anything even if it was installed because it's bypassed at WOT.

Isn't it like 3am over there? go to bed already!!! ;) j/k

one last thing, you said this in responce to me not wanting dirty air in my intake...

Wasn't my car made toward the end of last century?

Ok that's all. Again do as you please. I got my reasons, others have theirs.

wooo

i just want edo tk now if it was ok to cap it off instead of removing it. ;)

ive read the deabates over and over. i was hoping this wouldt turn into anotehr one

Just keep it on there, run some lines that are out of the way and save the extra 40 miles/tank.
