whats up guys, ok well my dad and his boss ( mechanics) both seem to come to a conclusion that my blocked off EGR is causing higher combustion chamber temps and melting my pistons. it happened twice now. stock fuel set-up, no fuel management at 15PSI .. ?! any ideas? i have it back now but im going to run stock boost untill i get a Walbro 190 and some injectors and an afc and logger..., pistons number 1-2 both had signs of being melted along with nicks on the cylinder walls.. detonation?

I'm going to hope you're not talking about your N/T turbo car.... I'm giving you teh benefit of the doubt on this one.

Its easy to melt pistons with detonation, however your dad and his boss don't seem to make any sense. You're effectively NOT recirculating exhaust gasses into your cylinders, therefore the only way it would combust hotter is if you are RIGHT on the edge of blowing your motor up during normal operation. In effect the computer does put less fuel into the cylinder when its expecting the EGR gasses to be present, however this only happens in very minimal load situations. (the only times the EGR valve is open is under constant low throttle or off throttle I believe.

However, running 15 psi shouldn't REALLY be a problem using the stock injectors and such unless there is a problem somewhere in the system, IE horribly plugged fuel filter, or injectors that aren't in great shape. Either way, you'd think after you melted shit the first time you would have asked this question.
 
Get a logger first so you know what's going on, much less costly then two back to back rebuilds. The problem isn't your EGR.
 
i dont own a N/T car or my laser anymore which was turbocharged too, this is all happeneing in my 90 Tsi AWD .. thanks now i have some proof to tell my dad that it was my fault for blocking off the EGR... well the 1st time i didnt ask this question becuase my rgr was still hooked up and i believed my p.os homemade boost controoler creeped on me. solved that problem. but yeah thanks for the help man :thumb:

I melted a good enough portion on my #1 piston from running 15 lbs on stock fuel. It was pretty. :D

Get a logger, and check out what's going on. As stated before, it's going to be TONS easier than having to rebuild over and over until you find the problem
