Eeeek! Anyone know much about dsm trunk latch?

Ok, heres the scenario - I was on a hot date this weekend, naturally I'm cruising in my Eclsipey with this chick (she loves it by the way - We get to the restaurant and what do I do? Lock my keys in the car Dear lord what a chump I am... - So Im making an attempt to prevent this from ever ever ever happening again (urg, how embarassing, needless to say I didnt get any action because of it) - Im exploring different ways of getting into the car w/o the key. Of course my keyless entry has been long broken, but what I was thinking of is the trunk.

The Question: Does anyone know a way to hook up a hidden switch underneith the car that would pop the trunk and thus save my sex life in the future?

I've heard of door poppers where you hit the switch underneith the door and it opens, but I think you need to buy the kit, im looking for a last-ditch approach to gaining entry to the car, so freebie is much prefered. Thanks for any help you can give me guys, love dis forum!

the trunk lever as you can see is not an electric switch, it is a manual release. in order to put a button under the car you would have to install somewhere along the line of the cable, a specifically designed electrical component that would pull the cable as if you had pulled it. this will not be free. depending on what you find (they make "solenoids" for this purpose, it might not be too expensive.

ps. if locking your keys in the car ruins your sex life....i don't know if thats sad, you're sad, or the girls sad. but thats pretty...well...sad.

ok, here's a reply on topic. it is doable, i wouldnt recomend to do this but heres you go. u will have to remove the plastic paneling in the trunk. get a small steel cable and hook it up to the latch, route that cable down thru the floor or out of the vents that are in the sides. put a small ring on the end of the cable or a handle so u can tug it. that way u will be able to pull it and it'll unlock the trunk for you. if u want some photos tell me, my paneling is out now and i can take a few pics for you

I carry two keys, in separate pockets. I didn't mean to, but one day I lost a key from a pocket that had a hole in it. As it turns out, I'd been working on the car that day, and had the "shop" key in the pants I was wearing.

I figured it was one of them Life Lessons.

I also run ignition keys naked. No ring, no fob, nothing. That's from all the money I made replacing the ignitions of Hondas whose split-tail owner carried a boat anchor's worth of crap on the keyring.

I have shaved handles, so I have a pull cord hidden on the car. If I shut the door with the keys in or the battery dies in my door remote, I pull a cord and the door pops open. Any place that sells shaved door handle kits should sell this kinda thing. Some even have buttons you can reach under and push. Also called kick switches or something.

okay, first picture is the overall view. i dont think u will have to remove the side panels, just the center one. mine are out, im doing work on it in the back there. now, this is the overall view of the back. the rubber plug is a good place for you to run the cable through. its high enough not to get water in the trunk if anything. get a cable with a cover preferably, so it doesnt cut into the car with time and use after use.

The thicker gray covered cable you see under the mechanism is what unlocks the trunk when u pull the lever by the seat in the front. its marked with a green arrow in the photo attached. this is the cable that u want to find. you will need to remove the mechanism off the car to flip it over. find where it attaches and attach your second cable to the same spot. try pulling it to make sure its on tight. put the mechanism back onto the car, make sure nothing is pinched off. get into the trunk, lock it, pull the cable from the inside a few times to make sure it can open it. make a hole for the cable to come out the rubber plug. push it through. get under the car from the outside, stick ur head under it and u should be able to see the cable sticking out, pull it down as much as u need it. put something on the end of it once u trim it to length. a small ring or handle will work fine, so u can grab it and pull on it. be carefull with steel cable and dont get pieces of it in you, it may get dangerous. also, realize that im not responsible for any unwanted damage you may do to the car, im only suggesting this. i cant be held responsible for actions you take. that should do it, i hope this helps you out. if you dont feel confident about doing this, you can get a kit from places that shave door hadles as it was said before, they specialize in that. good luck. tell us how it turns out

Hmm... its tough to say. If you run an outside pull cable to your trunk that could work. However i have a few more "pimp" alternatives, helping keep your access to your car without crawling through the hatch, and saving your sex life from utter devastation. Buy a new alarm and bypass the stock one. Shave the door handles and locks, hook them up to the remote. problem solved! Or, you could remove your trunk lock, hook it up to a solenoid and hide the button somewhere. Only problem with this being when you want to get into the trunk, youre going to have to hit that button, or go inside and pull the cable from the driver seat. not a bad trade-off though, in my opinion.

on my car, i have a nice viper 2 way paging alarm (yet to actually use it, damn thing is still in the shop). i can open the doors, roll down the windows, if all that goes to hell i can lower the convertible top with it. i also have ordered a small spare battery and another release switch for emergencies for one of the doors.

what attachment did you use to lower your top? i purchased a 530T to go with my Ungo SR5000 (made by DEI same as your alarm) so i can roll the windows down and up when armed but the top is latched...how will you lower it?

well i guess i can't say its completely automatic. If its nice out and im not going in wherever i am for a long period of time, i will just put the top up and leave the clips unclipped. my alarm and all the relays are waiting to go in, a friend of mine who is an expert is doing it for me as soon as the car comes out of the paint shop (later this week hopefully). im thinking about rigging up some type of motor on a cable in the headliner that can do it automatically, but i have more important things right now, like actually putting a motor in it...
