I recently purchased a 'rebuilt' ecu. it looks like it was rebuilt but when i looked closer at the board its corroded and looks bad. i was looking for some re-assurance that this ecu was rebuilt properly. also, will the corrosion hurt the board? should i try to clean it? and, the heat sink was removed and i need to know if that will effect anything??

I can't tell if that's corrosion or just the flux residue leftover from soldering. Either way, though, I wouldn't run that ecu without the heatsink. It's there for a reason. Also, I don't like the through hole ceramic caps in place of the surface mount ones, but that's just me being picky.

so i didn't get screwed? my car isn't running and i have to leave feedback for this product and i don't want to give them good feedback if its junk? i paid $50 for it. and the corrosion is all over the board not really around the caps just wondering if there's some solution to this corrosion building up. thanks.

It's not a good rebuild if they forgot to put the heatsink back on.

I don't know how much margin there is in mitsu's design, but without a heatsink, the injector drivers or the regulator could potentially fail. I've never measured the temps so I can't be 100% sure. It's risky to run it without that.

If the residue is white and it's all over the board, it could just be the reaction flux-off tends to have with the conformal coating on the board. That is harmless even though it doesn't look pretty.

Do you have a 90? That doesn't look like a 90 ecu.

That looks a little poopy. It probably won't be hard to clean it off. You can also probably get the heat sinks from a NT ECU from the junkyard. I'd give both jobs over to a local TV repair guy, or for some extra insurance, send it out to the ECU rebuilders on the site. Probably won't be more than $10-25 to get all that back on. A working turbo ECU for $50 is not a bad deal at all.

If you have a 90 and it's not a 90 ECU it's going to be bad times.
