Hey guys, over the weekend i was getting ready to put my eprom into my new project. After opening it i noticed this:

The photo eraser for one of the IC's is open. One of my buddies says its fine or i could put some rtv/lquid tape over it. But it should be fine either way because it wont see uv light anyway. Opinions?

OP, that's not an EPROM, sorry. Don't worry about having that IC covered.

What bare wires? There are bare leads all around the ECU. If something metal got in there and floated around that piece wouldn't be all that shorts out.

:ohdamn: wrong corner

Haha np it was a lesser board in a previous life. Hence my "post op" comment haha. The board color and case color say its non eprom anyway.

Inside the black piece that i circled in red. If you compare my pics to the pic in post 3 you can see the silver color and shine(inside the black ring) from the bare wires.

I always thought there was glass covering the actual chip inside of there. Yeah, I know what kind of wires you're talking about. They're like thinner than hair.

That definitely should be covered then. It doesn't need to be shielded from light, but even air will ruin what's in there.

nothings wrong in the pics.

Is that Not, the analog knock board for the ECU? There's clearly damage to it... Wonder if it's affecting the ability of the ecu to properly read knock?:hmm: Anyone know specifically know what part that is ?

Yea, I thought that was the knock DSP board. Damage to that would still let the ECU function but mis-report or not report knock. It might possibly not even warn the ECU of a faulty or disconnected sensor.

All that covers that is a small amount of clear gel. If the gel is missing then you might have a issue but i have run ECU with the gel half scraped away and it had no problems. If it was UV sensitive then everyone who opened there ECU would be screwed.

The gel is most definitely missing :notgood:. It works, but im not sure it will read knock correctly or last for any amount of time. I should have the car finished within the next week or so.

Ive got an idea on how to test that though. Tapping near the knock sensor with a hammer should give a reading. If it reads correctly, ill give it a real test.

Also about the uv sensitivity, check this out.
