I know it's been done. I know it works, but I can't seem to get it running. What am I doing wrong? All I want is a compact datalogger so I don't have to tote around a laptop. A Pi3 is likely more powerful than the Windows 7 laptop I'm using anyway.

The basic ECMLink Linux ARM64 doesn't seem to have any directions on how to execute the install or run it.

I found a GitHub for "DSMPi", but that doesn't seem to work either. The page seems to be about 6 years old as well. I have reached out to the author here, but I have not heard back yet.

I know someone makes a "PiLink" system, but I don't need all the functionality they have built in and I don't want to pay $300 (not that they have stock) to run a basic datalogger.

Can ANYONE help? I know some basic Linux and I can fumble my way through a tutorial if needed. I'd like to have this up and running before The Shootout in less than 2 weeks. PLEASE someone help!

What is the issue? I've got PiLink running all the features - even one John had not anticipated, so he helped me add a relay hat to replace some buttons. If you are building your own, start with getting the OS installed, and then work on getting the java based ECMLink installed. IMO if you can get one of the units from John for $300, its money well spent. He has worked out cooling, and power issues. You need a way for it to shut itself down - AFTER you turn off the key to avoid truncating log files and corrupting data.

I do not have PiLink. I didn't see a need for it since I don't need all of the features that he has integrated into it. Also, his site says that he does not have any stock at this time due to power supply units.

I have Pi OS (which I assumed was ok) on a Pi3B and I have downloaded the ARM64 version of ECMLink. I don't see any instructions on installing it other than outdated instructions referring to a CD, unless I'm missing something. I keep seeing something about Java Runtime when I search around, but I can't find any information on how to set that up, or if it's even needed.

I see something asking me to uncomment 2 lines, but no way to actually modify the code. I don't even know if that's what I'm supposed to do. I'm sure this isn't too complex, but without some direction to go in, I'm flying blind.

I think you have the right ARM64 ECMLink version for RPi. I'm using Debian 11 (buster) 32bit with desktop on a RPi4. I've never installed ECMLink on Linux myself - John did that for me - so I don't know the procedure.

I'd start by extracting the files from the download and see if there is a file called ecmlink_install.sh

Holy crap. It seems to be working. I didn't need to do much, but here's what I did.
1. Extract ECMLink download.
2. Extract ECMLink JAR file. (not sure if it's necessary)
3. Simply choose "execute" on the ECMlink file.

I've been clicking "open". Silly mistake, but that's what you would normally do with a file or application. I feel a bit dumb for not doing this. I'd like to think it just wasn't working before, but I'm always willing to own up to my mistakes. I need to test it in the car to ensure it connects and can log, but this is very promissing.
