Eclipse to Talon Conversion Questions

I actually have an update!
I went to the local junkyard over the past week and got quite a bit for the talon.
I got a full set of tan seatbelts (I already had them from my other car installed but these were in much better shape, on a low mileage car, and function properly) I got an actual tan cargo tray (crappy carpet dyed the last one) some suspension components from that low mileage car, and window trim thats in much better shape than mine so when it gets painted it'll look really good.

I also installed the black leather wrapped steering wheel from my other car

Now all thats left to do is purchase my paint, timing belt for the new motor, eagle oil cap, new clutch and flywheel, new plugs and wires, new mobil 1 oil, dsmlink v3 and put it in and paint it! I'm going to buy the paint now and wait on the new struts and lowering springs like I was originally going to do. I just wanna see it without this cheap paint job already!

I converted my 2ga eclipse to a 2ga talon rear end. Im looking to see how to correctly wire the talon tail lights. Right now i have my eclipse tail light wiring harness swapped the the talon tail lights so the amber lens doesnt light up. I want the lights to fuction properly. Any ideas?

They can be wired quite similar to the EDM tail lights. Before you go hacking and saudering, make sure the correct sockets are in the correct holes. I did my 2gb talon conversion and had everything saudered up, went to put the sockets into the housings and found out I needed to grab two of them off my parts car and wire them in.

Im finding it really hard to follow that write up. For one, talon tails are setup different, and the way hes wording things i dont understand. Im not a newb to electrical, just dont understand it.

Take your time and read over the thread a few times. It's full of a lot of technical stuff which will come in handy, like wire colors, but here's the jist of it. Fully understand the following before you go cutting into anything.

Step 1: eliminate the turn signal circuit from the bulb side of what will become your Talon's 2x stop/tail bulbs. You do this by cutting the high wattage wire used for the eclipse's combined brake/turn signal and tapping it into the 3rd brake light wiring, thus only illuminating the high-wattage filament upon braking. The low wattage side that illuminates with your headlights on is never touched.

Step 2: disable the brake light signal wiring at the flasher unit. Remember, your Eclipse wiring energizes only one wire for both stop and turn signal, but your Talon doesn't, so you must remove the brake voltage from the circuit since you'll use existing wiring to illuminate the turn signal bulb. If you didn't do this, your talons turn signal would illuminate every time you hit the brakes.

Step 3: sightly extend what was your Eclipses feed wire for the brake/turn signal (in step 1) to the high wattage side of your Talons turn signal bulb (this may require you to re-pin the socket to activate the high-wattage filament.) To be clear, the signal wire is the one of the two wires your clipped at the tail light assembly (in step 1), not the wire your removed in step 2.

Step 4: wire in a resistor into the new turn signal circuit to simulate an additional turn signal bulb and slow the flash rate.

Succesfully did it thanks to dsm_love_gst. Its a bit different than the edm conversion but it works!

You are right that it's a bit different, but not by much. The Eclipse is 1x tail and 2x stop/tail/turn bulbs. Both the EDM and the Talon are 1x Turn and 2x stop/tail bulbs, so a write-up would be identical if it weren't for some of the socket differences. I did my wiring about 6 months ago and spent about 45 minutes tonight re-thinking what all had to be done and why based on the link. It's still fairly straight forward once you understand the 4 steps I posted and can digest the EDM how-to.

Does anyone know if the harness to the ecu (the four yellow connectors) on a 95 talon tsi are identical to the harness on a 97 gsx? Sending my computer off to get converted and i found the biggest wiring mess in my life. Whoever had the car before me f*#ked it up so bad i about cried when i saw it. I have about a foot of harness with all the connectors unmolested from the 95 and i figured they must be the exact same but i want to double check.

Yes the wire harnesses are the same. Due to them being the same, I have wire connectors for the GSX power west on my spyder, which is awesome because I got GSX seats for it.

This thread has been a great read. Entertaining too haha. I got all my parts collected to create a talon out of my awd spyder eclipse.
