Hey. I'm buliding a 420a turboed motor from ground up.
here's what i plan on using for the project. I would appreciate any help/advice and idead from previous 420a builders. (I'm doing the 420a rebuild because i want to. I'm not looking for critisicm about this.) Just looking for some pointers from veteran builders. Here's what will be installed (no shortcuts). I'm only looking for reliable parts and info. (and yea i know it will be a lot of money for this, but i don"t care. This is what i want and that is that.)

So here's the list:
-Manley pistons, rings and rods
-metal head gasket (any ideas on this one?)
-air fuel controller (any advice on this too)
-ARP head, exhaust and intake studs
-RC fuel injectors
-Walbro fule pump
-GReddy exhaust
-AEM fuel management unit
-Turbonetics turbo, manifold, oil lines, and coolant lines
-custom down pipe
-GReddy blow off valve, wastgate and intercooler
-GReddy boost gauge
-Apexi boost controller
-King engine bearing (XP series pmax black) rod and main bearings
- MSD ignition, dizzy wires
-fluidampr lightweight crank pulley
-turbo timer (any ideas?)
-racing time belt/pulleys (any ideas?)
-crank (eagle? advice)
-AEM adjustable cam gears
- Comp cams ( any ideas for duration or size?)
-Comp stainless or titatinum springs and Comp titatinum spring retainers
-ACT clutch/flywheel

So now some random questions:
Looking for good advice for on parts that people have had GOOD personal experience with and reliable.
Should i put an intake manifold or just port/polish the stock one to match the head?
Throttle body?
fuel rail?
Stand alone engine management system?
turbo timer?
Also on the cylinder head I'm having some trouble on what i need to have done for port and polish? I'm looking for the hp to be up to 300-400 hp range. What would i need to have done, for work, on the head?
The block I'm having blue printed so its all balanced and honed, baked, cleaned so top of block is smooth.

So just let me know what advice you got.

You list seems a little off..

Aem fuel management and a air fuel controller?

Do you mean a fuel pressure regulator? Depending on the engine management you will have to get different regulators. You say you want to go stand alone... With that said you will need a 1:1 fpr. I like the fuelab FPR I have. Most people go fuelab or aeromotive.

Ditch the expensive AEM fuel management and look into megasquirt. Depending on your DIY skills and drive to learn new things MS can be very cost effective. Take a look at DIYautotune.com. They have everything you will need. They have diy kits and assembled kits. Just depends on how you want to go about it.

I have had my MS3x for over 2 years now. It took a lot to get into lots of reading etc but my personal opinion is it's the best way to go bang for your buck.

As far as cranks go I don't believe eagle makes a 420a crank. I don't think anyone makes a performance crank for the 420a anymore. If they do someone post the link I would love one LOL.

If you go with MS you can wire in a boost controller and control it with MS.

Like that you're building the 420a but you're everywhere. This is a starter list.

Je or wiseco pistons
Eagle or crower rods
Rod bearings
Main bearings
Arp head studs
Arp main studs
Mopar mls head gasket
Line hone mains
Polish/ grind crank
Balance rotating assembly
Sbc clutch
That's all that is needed for the block

Fuel system lots of ways to do this but the fastest route

Fcd
Fmu (8:1)
Fuel line (preferably braided)
Fuel pump (255lphHP) and rewire
I think that's it I could be forgetting something

Turbo system

Manifold
Turbo
Waste gate
Bov
Intercooler + piping
Vacuum lines
Boost gauge
Wideband
Oil pressure
Oil feed and return lines

Timing belt assembly
Mechanical tensioner
Oil pump
Water pump

Either clevite or acl I run clevite and I haven't looked back but either will do the job.

As for the timing belt the oem is fine but I would upgrade to the gates it's a stronger belt and I recommend the mechanical tensioner you can get it from modern performance and don't forget your oil and water pump oem works fine and idler tensioner

Like the guy above said Clevite or acl are great bearings. That way you'll have a strong reliable engine.:thumb:
Turbo timers increase the life of your turbo so, its up to you.

Port to match the gasket and if you can smooth out the lips that leads to the valve
420a heads are actually pretty great heads so in my opinion i don't believe a lot of porting is needed.

These are just my opinions though! best of luck! :hellyeah:
