I was thinking of just getting a mbc for $100 or should I spend the extra money and get a ebc ? btw, im running a fp3065 if that matters. Will a mbc be ok for a turbo that large ?

Some people who are looking for "the best of the best" performance will spend the extra money for an EBC. However, I don't completely see the need. A good EBC will control boost slightly better than an MBC, but I don't believe you would see leaps-n-bounds over a good MBC.

I got my Joe P. MBC for 38 dollars shipped. Click here for more info. It has proven itself time and time again for being a cheap, reliable alternative to expensive EBCs.

I guess it depends on how much boost your running and how often you want to run that boost level.

i.e. If you're okay with running 24lbs. all day - everyday, then go with a trusty and reliable MBC. If you would rather putt around town at say... 15lbs. and attempt to save some gas, but also would like to be able to switch to 24lbs. at the flip of a swith, I'd go with an EBC.

When I get my new car, I plan on getting a ebc, just because it is so much easier. You can switch boost inside your car, choose to save gas if you want, and its cool. DUH!

i had an ebc for a while and was not very happy with it. i ended up getting a joe P mbc for 20 bucks and it has been great and reliable. if you wanted the best of both worlds you might go with a duel-stage mbc, many of which can be switched from inside the car.:talon:

Ya, I guess it depends on how uch you want to spend. My next build, I plan on getting all the best stuff. That will take me a long time of course.

You make it sound like you can't do this more reliably and cheaper with a MBC...

Building your own Dual stage boost controller - MX6.com

You can use that to make as many stages as you'd like, along with RPM/nitrous/whatever switches to change boost however you'd like it to. Also, I get solenoids at the junkyard for $2. Actually, one guy asks for $5, and the other guy says "just take 'em" so it averages out to $2 a piece normally.

Before getting an EBC, I'd look into using a mega-squirt, just to control the boost. It's about the cost of an EBC, and you get multi-table boost control over RPM and load conditions. You also get a standalone ECU if you wanted to use it for that.

The only things I like about EBC's is that you don't have to get out of the car to change the boost level, and that you get the boost level you ask for. The second one takes all the fun out of twisting the MBC too far though.

Turbosmart and TurboXS both make mbc's that can switch between 2 preset boost levels. Hallman even makes a mbc that is fully adjustable from inside the car. i have considered some of these myself.:talon:
