Well I have recently bought the short route FMIC kit off ebay that every 2g'er seems to be using. Heres the link incase you dont know the one im talking about.

eBay Motors: 95-99 Eclipse 2G 4G63 Turbo FMIC Intercooler+Piping Kit (item 280238578756 end time Jun-28-08 02:44:16 PDT)

Well Im wondering if anyone one on the board has used/installed one of these? Im having a bad time trying to get these pipes to meet. The upper TB elbow will not connect to the BOV pipe, its about 4 inches from connecting. Not to mention that the lower side is about 3 inches too long and hits the cross member so I cannot coupler it to the core, It also hits my oil line where it screws into oil pump.

Im having a hard time with this intercooler and Im wondering if anyone on here has used one and what all the had to cut/weld/change/fix to get this FMIC on and working properly.

--Thanks

Any help with the lower side pipeing is appreciated.

Cant seem to find any posts about what ppl had to do it as far as it not fitting right.

thanks in advance.

i had the same problems with my kit also

for the lower...i cut about a 2in piece out of the pipe...right in the middle and connected it back together with a 2.5in coupler from NAPA...they sell the hose by the feet...it was like 12 bucks a foot i bought 2 feet and replaced all the couplers

for the TB issue i used a longer coupler...also from NAPA

PS. USE ONLY T-BOLT CLAMPS!!!....u might want to buy a few from NAPA while your there getting the hose to make the couplers....the ones that come with the kit are garbage :notgood:

I had to do the same thing on my friend's DSM. I searched and found out what to do. When did "NAPA" start selling couplers for boosted applications? Last time I checked they had those P.O.S. Spectre ones.

The j pipe must be cut down by about 3.5 inches and the reducer pipe to the driver side FMIC outlet must be cut 3 inches as well.

I'm not talking about the Spectre couplers. :notgood:

NAPA sells hose by the feet, they have sizes up to 3in, the 2.5in will work perfect...last time i was there they called it "cut to length Kevlar wrapped hose"

I've been running the hose for about a year with no problems...haven't had one pop off yet and i have no boost leaks

For the install on my car I used about a 6in long coupler to get the upper IC pipe to meet the throttle body elbow. As for the lower IC pipe, I bought a sweet J-pipe from ETS that runs almost all the way to the oil filter housing and then cut down the provided lower IC pipe on both sides of the bend to get it to fit. I double clamped it on both sides since it is no longer beaded.

The ETS J-pipe is around $90 so it really ups the price of the whole setup but I think it was worth it as it is so much less ghetto than when I had it rigged up with my RRE J-pipe cut short enough to go above the cross-member.

Thanks alot everyone. Thats pretty much as I suspected. I know the older kits just like this one that came in stainless steal was a direct bolt on with no modifcation for a down fireing turbo. (I beleive it was through the exact same whole seller.) But the newer ones, they comes with the cheapest grade alluminum Ive ever seen. I guess Im gonna start cutting, find my fitment and have all the pipes welded back together except for the 2'' that couples to my turbo. (I dont not use a J-Pipe). I guess it would be better to only use one coupler on the lower side anyway. Just a hassle tho.

--Thanks to all, and thanks also kevin.

yea there are alot of FMIC that allow you too keep the fogs. i have the CXRacing kit and it looks great, the pipes went right under my fogs, it looks great, i actually bought a mishimoto intercooler and it fit great as well.
