Ebay Radiators

I'm also wondering the same thing, how much if any will an aftermarket rad lower the coolent temps? My temps used to always run at 196 before the FMIC install & now I usually see 206-210 while cruising. It will also go up slightly on WOT pulls. I would like to get the temps back down under 200 under cruise, & wondering if a new rad is what I need? I do already run water wetter.

One thing most people fail to remember is that when you take out all of that ducting to install the front mount, you have lost the ability to direct airflow. Buidling ducting and sealing off possible escape points for cool air before it passes through the radiator will help more than a core. A radiator can only do so well without a certain amount of air flow to pull heat.

I have one of these. It's crude and the fan bolt locations don't line up for beans, but at 2.5x the thickness of a stocker, it cools like ice. The temp needle is glued to the face of the gauge now. And they're cheap.

I got this exact same radiator off ebay in Dec of 2004. I have yet to have a problem with it! As far as temps, driving around in the winter I got temps as low as 125-140 degs(as per my logger). It kinda worried me, so I would place a small piece of cardboard infront of it and it brought it back up to 170-180 degs while driving. In the summer, no cardboard, I have had no problems with temps driving, but if I were to sit in traffic for a good amount of time, my temps would go up to like 210-220 degs. So i installed a 3rd fan infront of the radiator and ran it off a toggle switch, problem solved. No leaking, great welds.

i had one on my other car in 3 years ago. worked great, doesnt have any leak or anything, i think you can go for it.

I put in an ebay oem style radiator for a friend. Nothing special, just a replacement. Fitment was great, fans bolted right on with no issues on the stock mounts, hoses, everything were no issue as well. Had the lines for the A/T tranny cooler I think what those were? Obviously did not use them. Been holding up great. It's probably the same ones that you get if you were to buy one at Advance Auto/pep boys/autozone/napa/etc. But paid significantly cheaper for it. Been running it several months now no problem, and I'd get it it again if it was just for replacement.

One more update on my useless radiator:

Apparently it's either Yonaka Motorsports product, or it's a counterfeit sold by this Speeding Track outfit. I'm far more inclined to believe the former, myself. Above is the Speeding Track photo (note watermark) and here is the Yonaka part. Can you see a difference?

If so, know that Yonaka doesn't honor their lifetime warranty -- it isn't worth the Internet it's written on, and I quote in part:

Quality...above all else.

Every Yonaka Motorsports brand product is covered by a limited warranty against defects in workmanship and materials for the lifetime of the original owner.

Should a problem occur due to defect, Yonaka Motorsports will, at the company's discretion, either repair or replace the product at no charge. Damage to the product resulting from an accident, neglect, or normal wear and tear will, at our discretion, be repaired or replaced for a modest fee.

Quality above all else, huh?

On the other hand, if it's somehow a "counterfeit" of a generic, hand-made sheetmetal radiator, who'd bother?

Either way, somebody ripped me off. Yonaka danced around their lofty warranty in half a dozen emails and phone calls and the Speeding Track sells broken product without recourse.

It's easy to spot these things so be on the lookout.

Sorry to bring this back up, but wanted to add to the thread for future users interested.

Went and purchased an aluminum radiator core on EBAY. It seems to be the same/similar core Punishment Racing is selling for $249 shipped with 2 slim fans. See URLs for more info:

Welcome!

It was about $150 shipped give or take $10, I forget. Decided to just use the stock fans and save $100.

Core is solid and welds look beefy. What was interesting is if you use the stock fans, each fan is missing a mounting poiint. They only have 3 per fan. Failed to notice that in the pictures. The fans still are held securely, but it was just weird how they decided to not include the last mounting point for the stock fans. This can be seen in the pics I attached.

Also the AC fan will be pushed a bit closer to the engine because of how the mounts are designed. About half an inch. The engine fan still sits flushed with the radiator like stock. Both of this could be seen in the pictures I attached.

I'm running a big16g, and the Jpipe I had fits just right where I didn't need to hack any part of the fan/shrouding/etc. If it was the RRE jpipe, I know for sure I would have to because I use to have that setup.

My only other complaint like everybody said is that O-ring gasket on the drain plug. Mine ripped right away.

So far it has been good, but it has only been 2 days. I have DSMLink and can get logs if people want some data on my temps.
