Im slowly inching towards being able to build my 6 bolt bottom end and get it swapped into my 2g. But I have stumbled upon some problems and concerns. I purchased a used 6 bolt motor that had started to eat at the mains and rod bearings and at the time I thought I was getting a great deal....thought.

Long story short it had a knife edged crank that needs turned( I wont use it) and Eagle rods/Wiseco pistons(found out they were cracked). I am a bit concerned about the condition of the Eagle rods. The bearings did not fully spin, but the small end is discolored on the brass bushing. And later inspection revealed dings on two of the rods..

So....are these rods usable? Or did I drop the ball again? I know the brass bushings can be replaced(Summit Racing), so thats a thought.

The big ends still have the cross hatches as you can see, and please ignore the rust...I touched them when i first got them and didnt coat it in oil....(Im still learning)

Not sure how those rods got dinged but I can advise on the bushings.

When replacing the bushings in my Eagle rods I could not find a set anywhere. Eagle does not in-house make the bushings, they order a boat-load (literally, they order a couple thousand at a time) from overseas. About 4 months ago, they were completely out with nothing on order since it's not a high demand thing. Looked around the net and found the part number a couple times. No bueno, all sold out.

SO. I called up Eagle and asked the specs for the bushings. They told me the specs (including the interference fit) and once I was ready, I called up CrowerCams and talked to Jerry. Cool guy, got me all set for $50 shipped and parts were made and arrived at my place withing a week. Perfect fit. Been banging out good power for 4K miles now on this new build.

Ill keep that in mind. I saw that Summit Racing carries them, just have to order the right size. And they run almost $7 a bushing.

As far as the ding, Im fairly certain someone dropped the rod...which worries me.

Ah okay I see they sell them by the size, not application right?

You can get the rods magnifluxed to check for any cracks. I would also get the rods balanced at your machine shop, even though Eagle says they are within .5 grams mine was off about a 1-2 grams each.

Im getting the entire rotating assembly balanced before the engine is being assembled. Ive been doing some research and Ive come to see that Eagle is off in weight and sometimes the big ends are out of round.

If the rods are in usable shape I debated on selling them and using the money towards a Manley set.

Sell them and get a set of scat rods. They are almost perfect out of the box and my machinest didn't have to take much at all off the rods to get them balanced. Scat q.c. is leaps and bounds above eagle.

Your call but every set of rods is needed to be checked for weight, just a rule of thumb really. I haven't heard of being out of round, that's strange. I've also never heard of anyone breaking/bending the Eagles, maybe that's because they're rated at 1000HP.

Made it to the machine shop this morning, he said they are ok and usable. The wrist pins still fit well without any looseness. Im still going to get a new set of rods so Im putting these up for sale.
