Well after much deliberation thanx to all the choices out there, my DSM mentality kicked back in. Best price w/out sacrificing quality. Found this baby on e-bay. Total was around $150 shipped and it included all the gaskets and hardware. 2.5" neck down to 3" after flex and reduces back to 2.5" all mandral bent. I know the flames about the reduction at the end, but I'll be slapping on a HKS Carbon TI setup that is only 60mm in diameter. To counter this I'll be hacking into this downpipe and installing a 3" electronic downpipe. The quality however is superb and came as a pleasant surprise. Anyways, here are a few pics:

Because if it is suppose to be a knock-off apexi downpipe, it would only fit apexi/RSR exhausts because the downpipe is longer and meant to fit the shorter piping from the Apexi/RSR exhausts only.

it will bolt up to the stock catback, or any catback other than Apexi or RS*R. it starts off at 2.5" at the O2 housing, expands to 3" after the flex section, and has a reducer to bring it back down to 2.5" to connect to the rest of the exhaust. it's the length of the stock downpipe and cat, except it eliminates the cat.

I have a greddy evo exhaust and it bolts right up. Since the stock down pipe and cat were on there I assume it is in the stock location. Just replaces the downpipe and cat, thats all. And i paid 169.00 for mine shipped.

it's the stainless steel one. looking back at it now, I probably should have just gone with the coated mild steel one. at least I don't have to worry about it ever rusting though.

why would you prefer the mild steel one? I figured I'd be putting it on for the life of the car unless I decided to do some crazy performance on it, and therefore SS would be worth the $50 or so... no?
I was going to order one tomorrow...

dammit, i just realized something... I have a 1G engine in my 2G, and nothing on the car (even non-engine related) seems to fit in my car...
am i SOL on this downpipe?

no, the only difference should be in the routing of the downpipe between the 1G and the 2G.

hmmmm I checked out that exhaustdepot.com site, damn cheap parts! I was wondering though 2.5 or 3" hi flow cat??? And are there cats as good as the ones on machv.com??? My plans in the near future for my exhaust system are

downpipe 2.5 or 3", hi-flow cat 2.5 or 3", Apex N1 exhaust w/ 3" piping. What size downpipe and cat should I get???

OMG I'm getting confused LOL...your saying it will bolt up to the stock cat bu then you saw the downpipe eliminates the cat.

so what does that mean, I might need to have it bent or something?
I mean, I know they sell 1G and 2G downpipes, so theres gotta be some difference, am I going to need to go custom?

thx

Would that 2.5" reduction hurt performance, and would it hurt if I attach 3" cat-back on it. all i'm worried about is 2.5" sectino right before the cat-back.
I was thinking about getting that and make my own cat-back, with a flowmaster, or some other chear muffler.

hmmm I'm thinking of just gettinga 3" downpipe that eliminates the cat and getting some 3" piping going to the N1 turbo universal. Altogether should cost around $500.

do you really need 3" all the way back?

I mean I'm sure if you have 2.5" and up all the way back thats all you'll ever need... Not worth the extra cost IMO.

I'm about to order the ebay stainless steel downpipe... one of my friends recommended having it ceramic coated, as it will rust at some point, so I'm considering that, but I really don't care if it rusts in YEARS.

stainless steel doesn't rust

Just curious, for all you guys with this downpipe on your car, does it seem to smell like gas more especially inside your car? Cause after I installed it, I can smell gas inside my car and when I roll down my windows, I can smell it strongly. The fumes are so strong, that it even makes my eyes burn. Also, the first bend does not seem to be 2.5, it a little bit smaller than that. Does anybody have this downpipe with a ported 02 or an turbular o2 and if so, does it bolt right up and is there any leaks?

i have no idea how the downpipe would creat or magnify a gas smell.. have you checked your fuel filter for leakage...etc?

oh, maby its leaking a bit at one of the flanges..

a GOOD way to check for exhaust leaks AND clean your motor is to go to a dealership and buy some "top end cleaner" and run it through your engine.. check VFAQ for exact instructions...

it will make any exhaust leaks very obvious.

it makes your eyes burn, you sure it isn't a coolant leak?
i have the stainless steel dp and it's fantastic in every way, but i've also had many coolant leaks...

"Why start out at 2 1/2"? If you are running on the stock O2 sensor housing, even ported it is 2 1/2" inside diameter. When the exhaust gasses are hot, they flow better, 2 1/2" is plenty for the first 12". As the gasses cool , bigger helps."
