Ok, I need to take my car to have it tuned by professionals, since I'm not good with tuning. I'm running v3 and just can't figure it out. Now I was planning on have a tranny built since mine is on it's last leg. Should I wait to have the tranny built before having it tuned? As in will the new tranny throw anything off? This is probably a really dumb post but I just want to make sure before I drop all sorts of money on this.

I let them dyno tune the piss out of mine on the stock tranny so if it broke I wouldn't be out a lot of money.

Another guy came in with a built tranny and stripped 4th gear on the second pull.

Driving your car is surely harder on the tranny than dynoing. You're not shifting hard or launching on the dyno.

I concur.

OP: fill out your profile. We have no idea what your mods are. Going to the dyno with stock parts is pointless to me. Unless you have money to throw around like that. If that is the case, send me DSMlink please

Post up logs on our support forum or on this forum and let's see what you're working with. The only hard part, IMO, about "tuning" is getting over the initial fear of it...

Actually you have helped me out a lot on that site, but the car still runs like shit dd and under WOT. I guess I just wasn't made for tuning the car.

You should at least get it running right before getting it tuned by a pro so you don't end up wasting a bunch of money trying to tune through some problem. If you do a little reading on fuel trims and stuff, you should be able to get a decent baseline tune fairly easily. If it seems impossible, you probably have another issue. Give us some info about what it's doing / not doing.

When I get my laptop back I'll post up some logs. I can't do much without that. Basically it all lies in the fact that the wb isn't reading right I think. It pulls timing if I step on it and don't ease into the throttle. That might be from the fact that it's showing 9:1 afr on WOT. Yet it is leaning out under normal driving conditions.

A different transmission won't affect your tune enough to be concerned about it.

One thing you should keep in mind though... if you puke a tranny of the dyno the dyno shop might charge you a fluid cleanup fee (I've seen anywhere from $25 to $100 looking online). It's a PITA to clean oil off a dyno roller and the undercarriage of the dyno. Also, if they charge a minimum dyno fee (like a minimum of an hour dyno time) and your transmission blows on the first run you might be out some money even though they weren't able to do any tuning. You'll also have to pay to have it towed unless you are going to pay them to change the trans. If I were you I'd do what you can to prevent your trans from failing on the dyno. Besides, it's not like you are getting the car tuned so you can baby it afterwards. It's going to see abuse after it's tuned anyway. :hellyeah:

Have you read the tuning threads by jeffgst? Print it out and read and read and read. You'll get it with time.

Do you have the link to it? I think I may have seen it before but I'm not sure.
