An old high school friend who had a 91 Talon AWD.

"I'm gonna convert my talon to rear wheel drive. It's really easy, all I have to do is take out my front cv shafts."
 
I think the dumbest thing I ever heard was. I get this call from this kid and he tells me his car is running bad, and he procedds to tell me what he has done to the vehicle. I ask him what his boost/vac says? I then ask him were do you have it tapped into at.He goes into a long spill, He then says I have it tapped into the intake, (the dump part) I just got a drill bit and tap.I drilled into the intake and then tapped it so I could screw it on to the intake. Then I ask you had the intake off right???? HE SAYS NO!!!! Well theres probly the reason your car runs like $HIT...LOL

How about "Wow, it looks all fast and the furious'd out!" when I popped the hood. Although he was serious and meant it as a compliment.
 
Haha this thread got a good laugh out of me. I have yet to hear anything dumb from any dsm'ers i meet.
 
went into autozone and the guy that was working asked if my car had a turbo(you can see the front mount)

guy: can you open your hood
me: sure
guy: looks around my engine bay with a blank stare "so....where is the turbo"
me: what?
guy: where is the turbo
me: right in front
guy: front where?
me: pointing at the turbo
guy: oh so that is the turbo
 
Whats goin on guys this is mainly for DSMUNKNOWN , Just thought you should know im the one that posted that cheak engine light on the site that you put the link up on her as dumbest things said by DSMERS. And i was wondering what makes that so stupid i would like to really hear your answere to this one.
So be carefull what you say might not know 100% about DSM's honestly even though i do know alot. But i do work as a machanic for a ford, suburu and mazda dealership, so i have alot of experience with a variety of cars.
Well the link you guys can cheak it out as he took it upon himself to post it above, My cheak engine light is on for many reasons concerning my 6bolt swap and solonoids i did not put back in boost, fuel, and my egr block off ect... So why would taking the bulb out be so bad or as you oviously think is a stupid thing to do. because you posted it on this forum as stupid things said by dsm'er right?? You might think its stupid iduno? Ok so say something else happened to my car and the computer throws a code a CEL, i oviously would not know anyway because the light is on ALL the time, so if i did throw a code i wouldnt know would i? Only way to know is if to keep cheaking with a scan tool every so often because my light is constintly on due to those reasons i stated. And or to get DSMlink but as of NOW i dont have that. So if i took out the bulb out it would be no different would it?? Im looking forword to hearing what so stupid about my post, All you guys can comment maybe im wrong iduno?

Im no english major and i am not 4 year college graduate, so what, i mispelled a few words ok you got me i guess? Im still waiting on why my thread was dumb though. But im sure you dont want to say anything becaus you probly have no clue anyway. Maybe Ill cheak with one of my moderator friends and see if bashing another ones thread is allowed on this forum. Atleast you can tell me why its dumb im still waiting on that.
 
And your right about dealerships, except theres a good reason why dealerships are bad. Along with corner shops, and pretty much all business owned machanic shops not just dealerships, is because your always on a time watch, i mean delerships its basicly have to get it done as soon as you start, and alot of tecs make there money by timed jobs, so lets say if you do a break job and you get about iduno 2 hours to do it..(i dont kno the correct hours its all in the computer) You want to finish as quickly maybe half that time so you can get paid for the 2 hours and move on to the next job, so its all pretty much a rush game and thats why theres so many mistakes. And alot of corner shops are just as bad just because alot of them try to rip you off just as bad as the dealer, along with your dsm shops that ive come across to be even worse so if your not doing work yourself then your going to get fuged either way.
 
okay ive got something to share.

I was sitting outside my little brothers high school to pick him up when a bunch of whiggers come walking by the car.

This is the following conversation:

-Kid: Is your car a 4 cylinder or a 6?
-Me: Its a 4 cyl turbo
-Kid: Well my brothers got a jetta and hes got a v6, he'll smash you
-Me: Doesn't matter how many cylinders you got

I then hard launched and watched jaws drop.


Oh and one of my favorites was trying to explain to my brother that the shiny gold thing is the wastegate only to be called a liar.
 
I haven't had anything major. I ignore ricers completely. The only people who I talk to are knowledgeable about cars. There's not too many DSMers around here, so when talking to them, we both learn about each other rides... like this turbo 300zx that's around here. Very nice. I do get alot of people asking why I'm not running 20psi so I have to explain the block capabilities, but the 420a is a red-headed step child so no one knows alot about it if you don't own one.

I do remember one time when I first bought my car... like the 2nd time I took it to a gas station, there was another 95 black talon esi... the production dates or whatever were like the same month IIRC. I had nothing at the time, but we had the hoods open looking. Now I was pretty stupid about cars at the time but I knew a little bit.

Me: Any mods?
Him: Ya I got a new Intake Manifold
Me: (I look at the IM that is a stocker)
Him: You have to look farther down... it's way behind the engine so it's hard to see.
Me: :-/ .... Umm.... ok.....

Now I can understand maybe if it was ported and polished like mine is now, where it looks stock, but opened up, but it was just bone stock.
 
Had a guy I work with the other day tell me he used to have a 2001 600whp AWD turbo Eclipse... My first reaction was he said the wrong year so I was like you mean 99? To which he responds "No 2001" I ask "3rd gen ?" He tells me yes. So i'm like "BUUUUL SHIT" we argue for a few min and I ask for proof to which he has none.

Why would you do a 6 bolt swap and not have some type of logging equipment or engine management? That alone will fix/tell you any reason that your cel is on.


After first drive of my car after it was finally put back together (i had some help due to lack of tools)
Me: My car really needs aligned....like bad!
Mechanic:(okay he really knows his stuff but...) yea your tires are chirping everytime you give it gas and shift.
Me: uhm....thats my bov...
Mechanic: Oh

So my cell will never go away unless i get DSM link to turn off the light.
 
When I first got my car, this dude at my work asked me what kind of car it was.

Guy: What kind of car is it?
Me: Mitsubishi Eclipse GST.
Guy: Is it fast?
Me: It's o.k., it's the turbo model.
Guy: So it has a button?
 
one of the kids at my high school asked for me to look at his newly purchased 1g fwd. he said it had a front mount and an exhaust. turns out the previous owner hung a stock srt-4 fmic behind the bumper, also note that the end tanks were hacked off.

"...oh, so thats not working?"

I'm not looking for pissing contest with you JoE, but maybe the thought process quoted above is why Anthony linked your other thread in this one and also why the other thread was closed.

Just saying, if you knew for sure there weren't going to be any issues you ever wanted to fix (or be notified of by the CEL), then why did you need to make a useless thread about pulling out that lightbulb? Better yet, why wouldn't you just leave those solenoids and the airbag module plugged in so you wouldn't get annoyed with the (in your opinion) unecessary CEL?

Before you reply, which I'm sure you probably will, please step back for a sec and cool down. First, nobody is attacking you, second, nobody is perfect. I've made my own share of useless posts I'm sure, just chalk that thread up to a temporary brain freeze and let's all move on instead of arguing about it and you thinking you need to defend your honor or some BS. It's okay, half the posts in this thread were probably the poster that was the dumb one. We aren't born with knowledge, we learn as we grow and gain life experiences.

Nah it just gets under my skin that a mod/wiseman would threaten to use their moderator powers in such a manner. It's abusing them and defeats the integrity of this site, and therefor a dumb thing to say. But i guess it is in the eye of the beholder. Hey where did you come up with the name lofty?

I can tell on myself. When I bought my first NT DSM 6 yrs ago I thought the A/C compressor was the oil pump.
 
I was parking at Wal-Mart this morning, when i see a real beat up 94 TSi AWD being parked. Body was in horrible shape and the entire rear window was made of clear plastic bags and duck tape and i think there were 3 different wheels on the car.
So i obviously walk over and start a conversation. After some talk, i realized this kid didn't have any clue about his car. But he was eager to pop the hood and I quickly noticed the T3/T4 turbo and what looked like an eBay EM. Besides that the engine looked stock and neglected.

me: what fuels modifications you have?
him: none
me: okay, so are you getting a front mount?
him: I'm not, the stock side mount gives me the best gas mileage.
me: right....:rolleyes:

I just told him to have a happy holiday.

I should have offered him $500 and saved that DSM from certain death.
