Depends on how you look at it. With a basic auto, you don't have much control over the rpm range at launch...it's harder to keep the rpm's up and still have control over what's getting to the ground.
With a manual, you have control over pretty much every aspect; so for a driver that's good on the clutch, it would be easier to get a good launch with a manual.
