So I finally get all the parts in to change the driver side axle and seal, new 190 walbro and a rewire kit.

The issue with the axle is what I'm here today for. The intermediate shaft bolts were missing so the shaft was unsecured causing the inner boot on the axle to shred.

Well when everything was done and replaced I drain the fluid to change it and was suprised it came out the consistency of 15/50 motor oil was a dull grey and smelt comparable to the milky white #### from a boil or wound, basically nasty.

I've been reading and reading and would like some confirmation. No metalic sheen to it what so ever, transmission shifts perfect no grinds, goes into gear like butter. Has been rebuilt or work been done on it as it has aftermarket seal job on parts of tranny.

In my reading heard that water could turn the tranny fluid a grey color and this is VERY likely as the intermediate shaft wasn't able to be sealed properly at the transmission for an unknown amount of time (bought car 2 months ago in this condition) In he 2 weeks I was able to drive before noticing it only got maybe 50miles but again unknown how long or much before purchase.

So planned action is drive it for 100-200 miles and check or change fluid again to flush it out. Other then the bad sealing on the shaft no other apparent leaks from tranny.

Sounds like syncro or bearing material. Water won't remain in the transmission because of the vent on top. As the fluid heats up the water will be turned to a vapor which will come out the vent.

Well, I haven't noticed any signs of bad synchro's they work wonders. This is the best shifting tranny I've ever had in a dsm.

As for the bearing. I haven't heard any weird noise's from it. Other then checking fluid after a bit of driving for actual metal in oil. Plan on doing another change after this unusual event probally in next few weeks. Pretty practical with Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid. 8 bucks a quart so reasonable to do.

Are bearings non magnetic and dull in color? There was no sparkle what so ever. And when I dipped a magnet in oil (because I thought that first) it came out damp but nothing stuck to it.
