I need help diagnosing this code. I have to pass emissions in california and this is the only thing holding me from passing.

The code reades "evaporation emissions control system leak".

I have no idea what to look for. I try to erase it but it keeps coming back.

Thanks in advance

This is a difficult problem to pinpoint. It's so difficult, you might consider taking the car to a professional. Unfortunately the EVAP system is a labyrinth of hoses and lines... I know a lot of 2GNT'ers who have tried to find EVAP leaks with no luck. I imagine the use of professional dyes and detectors would help tremendously. Barring that, you should familiarize yourself with the system (think FSM or Haynes/Chilton) and begin checking hoses for cracks. Keep in mind that some hoses are above the gas tank and cannot be accessed unless the tank is dropped.

Good luck!

Holy Crap, Dave. That is not a good one to get. I have solved that one on two different cars, but it was not necessarilly an easy one to find (I know of at least one hardcore DSM'er who gave up his car because he couldn't solve the riddle). I have the advantage of having quite a few "known good" parts kicking around. So I am able to swap crap out until I locate the problem. Not the best of strategies, but one I used on one of the cars I had to get through emish.

Look on your hood and you will see a schematic. If you haven't got the stock hood on, you can search around to find pics of others. You will want the same year. The LDP and cannister etc. are located in the nose of the passenger side of the car. You will need to do some following hoses and detective work to find the problem. Like Paul said, do a little learning/research and you should be able to get it...hopefully :coy:

Or maybe its just a new gas cap away............

but I have looked it up on Alldata. It printed out like 5 pages of procedures. Ill let you know what happens and if I can get this dam light off.
