same shit happen with me but thru autotrader bro. dude from uk contacted me saying he wants to buy my truck for the listed price and all this shit how he was sending a check and when we cashed it, the shipping people would come and pick it up. same shit happened with tommygun. basically a scam SO WATCH OUT IF UK PEOPLE CONTACT YOU IF U HAVE RIDE FOR SALE.

Basically he tracks the check and thats why the always send like a cashiers check and weird stuff like that... but trust me i had a friend get his whole account fscked up. over a 20 dollar casheir check.

Do a Google for "scam cashier's car purchase". This is going on like crazy right now. If you want to, the FBI is probably interested in this case.

It might help you with that problem on your record.

A note about the Modern World: a "cashier's check" isn't any more valuable nor trustworthy than a regular old personal check. With greater and greater frequency, cashier's checks are being forged, and it still takes a bank a couple of days (don't ask me, I have no effing idea) to actually move money. Float, probably. And if this starts late on a Thursday, the truth may be obscured to mid-day the next Tuesday.

You just have to be as careful as you can. Just short of paranoid.
