So, the link got here for me today. I'm having troubles getting it to recognize the connection however. It gives me the command time out error. I tried several things to make it work including:

interByteDelayMillis=40
interCommandDelayMillis=40
cmdReplyTimeoutMillis=1000
in the .prefs file

Imade sure the drivers for my DB9 port were installed and ran fine. I figured It might just want the USB instead, so I went to Radioshack to get a DB9/USB adapter. That didn't solve the problem.

So, what could it be? Yes the car is in the ON position.

Im assuming the dsm link is in your car already and your trying to access it from a laptop. If you are using a usb connection you will have to go to options and change the port. The dsm link will automaticaly try to connect through the serial port.

Forgot to add, this is assuming i understood what your asking. If your using an USB cable you will need to have the drivers for it installed for it to connect to the dsm link.

Yes, I am trying to use it with a usb adapter from radioshack. I tried all ports that were options. COMM1,3,and 4.
I began with trying to use just the serial, but would not connect, so I figured it would be a problem with that port.

I installed the adapter drivers and the laptop does recognize its existence.

Well if you tried the usb cable with the drivers installed and the serial cable and neither of them work on every port with the car on, then theres a problem.

I had this problem with the time out error and fixed it by buying a new usb cord from walmart, I loaded the drivers and switched to comm4 and it worked like a charm.

Sorry I couldnt help GL with fixing it.
