dangit one guy beat me i think in this thread, i got 165,xxx when i got it last july it had 162-3 or something, no problems since and it runs perfectly *knock *knock :) time for next car with half this many miles...............

Bought it with 65k orginal miles, 76k now, no leaks, no burning oil. Everything works fine with no boost leaks now. does have some dents but no rust so thats good.

99 with 93K.......I thought I was high mileage, but after viewing this thread, I feel alot better thanx :thumb:

Man...talk about a touchy bunch!

I got bad reputation comments because of my post? You guys are crazy....and childish.

All I said was that it is a bit better to start with a factory turbo car than add a turbo. I don't think anyone would disagree. I didn't say you can do it.

Also, my reliable comment was with my experience....and I am guessing if you checked some impartial source like consumer reports or Edmunds, I am guessing they wouldn't give that car a "Reliable" rating.

To each his own.

Sorry to have upset you guys.

Later,
Patrick

Because you aren't going to get much out of that engine. It isn't terribly reliable either. I had a blow head gasket at 19,000.

Really? Mine has 180,000 miles on it and it still pulls hard all the way to 7000 rpm.

i have a 96 eclipse with 183k on it...just had a compression test two days ago and ran 170s across the board...the mileage is never the problem, its how the engine was treated...mine runs stronger than any other eclipse ive owned, or ridden in..

just get it checked out and whatnot, they are strong engines

Jeeze, I thought my car had alot of miles on it. I see an eclipse with 180k... ive got 140k. Man thats friggin crazy, and then again, my car has never gave me any problems at all, but i do have an oil leak, i think it is the valve cover gasket. Other than that it still pulls hard wth 140k.

yep, I bought it last year with 130,000 miles on it. I've put 50,000 very hard miles on it since without any major problems. oh and my gas pedal only has two positions, 0 and WOT. :thumb:

Awesome! I am glad.

But...the original question was asked about modifying a car with 136K on it...and an oil leak (that might be leaking head gasket..in my opinion).

Modifying a car with that many miles on it, with other problems is just a potential problem waiting to happen...at least in my opinion.

I am sure that there are tons of people with crazy miles on that DOHC engine. Just in my experience, mine was a bit unreliable.

Also, remember my original post...I said how much power do you want, and how much money do you want to spend? Because getting something like 20% more power out of a NA engine like the one in the 2G NT is going to cost some decent $$.

That is all I was saying.

Patrick

Having owned both types of 2G's, I'm inclined to agree with what Patrick is saying and with BigRand's advice. I didn't start modding my 95 N/T until I had close to 120K on the clock and I added the typical things like CAI, header and exhaust. Having owned a 12 second Cobra before that, I was still a bit power hungry and the N/T never satisfied me.

That being said, it was incredibly reliable and well maintained. I sold it with 130K miles and it still had the original bottom end, clutch and transmission. It never left me stranded and was simple to take care of. If you have a motor in good running order, adding a turbo would work for you, but if there are issues, I would solve them first and then consider what the goals are for the car. If you're happy being N/T, then add the typical stuff. If not, make sure the bottom end is tight and that compression is good before adding a turbo.

Knowing what I know now, I would have saved the money I spent on my N/T and had a bit more to use on my GSX. It's your choice and fully dependent on what your goals are. It's your money and your car.

Cheers,

Andy

I definitely agree with that, I just didn't agree with your previous statement that the 420a is unreliable.

I hear ya man, I have a 12 second '66 Chevy truck. A turbo is definitely in my future, but it'll be on the 420a.

148,000 here with basic bolt-ons and compressions 180 across the board :D , I would suggest a compression test to see how your holding up inside. Big Rand made a good point about a good rebuild of the internals now, then you'll be ready for the turbo.

As for the sell it for a gs-t bullshit, you've been warned, read up on the rules section. Someone already posted it, the founder of the site is tired of seeing it and so are we, keep it to yourself. We bought ours for one reason or another, respect that and help with the question at hand.
