That would be impossible. but best of luck sounds like a neat little project.

Pretty sure he ment make the bellhousing side of the block face the rear, not put the 4g in the trunk. ROFL A t56 hanging off the back of a 4g would be longer than a miata is wide.

And with that thought, I want a 4g63 in the back end of a fiero! That'd be badass!

Lol, There was a guy at the shootout awhile back that had one "mostly" done in a fiero, idk what the outcome was last I heard it was having some igniton issues.

Want to be original? Put a god damn Cummins in it.

A 4bt might fit but would be pointless. There's no chance in hell your fitting a 5.9 in that miata. ROFL Those things are like 3.5 feet tall from oil pan to valve covers, not mention weighs like 900+lbs and that torque would twist a miata into a damn twizzler without a serious cage.

If you ignore reality, it'd be pretty sweet. :rocks:

I have a supercharged 1.8L, which sees DD + track time at Willow springs, and i have absolutely no Issues with the Drivetrain. ( Stock)

And I'm pushing slightly over 200 RwHP.

I also never had drive train issues. My friend with a FM turbo kit at 250whp has the stock Torsten diff, and it works great.

There's 2 contradictory statements constantly being thrown around in this thread.

One yes the all aluminum ls series is similar in weight to our iron block 4g63, but the iron block truck motors are MUCH heavier.

Two you are not getting an aluminum ls for under $1000. That's total bs. You can pickup a long block truck ls for 500-1000 if you want a 4.8 or 5.3 WITHOUT harness and ecu. Then we get to the point of weight again.

How I see it is, spend 1800-2500 for an aluminum ls, 1000 or less for a small displacement iron block ls that would probably demolish the weight distribution, or go 4g63 and be different, cheaper, and maintain a decent weight distribution.

Well said.

Oh, I'd ignore reality for the sake of originality.

OP, why not just use the original power plant and build a fun little roadster. In the end, that's what the car is. Might as well see how much fun you can have after optimizing what it is already.

I can say this from my research that there is no such thing as a cheep engine swap.

Nope! There is always un-foreseen expenses that add up quick. If I was do to that swap (4g) it would be to get the tubular front subframe, built 4g, the v8 swap rear end that uses the CTS-v LSD, custom drive shaft to the quafe internals in stock housing miatia trans, and go like stink.

You are lucky.
Are you doing wheel to wheel all out racing?, all I can speak of is from the experience in racing, as a matter of fact one of our car just won SCCA race in Atlanta, my buddy does about 2 or 3 a wk, trannys and diff. after these races but anyways the OP has made his decision.

Thanks
Streets of Willow on Open track days, and if i can squeeze in with a few NASA buddies.

Grats on the Win.

Correct just meant facing the engine to the rear.

Im sure I will just want more power is one problem and its a project so I want to do something different. The plan with the stock engine and tranny will be to sell it and fund some of the build.

If you are planning to sell I might have someone interested in the engine .and complete drivetrain.

Spares, spares, spares

Thanks

Cool, ya I think with that and some other parts it will make the project a little less painful on my wallet.
