I have the dsm logger and the mmcd on a palm m100. Anytime I try to log with dsm logger....it tells me to check my connection. With the mmcd it looks like it trys to log for a few seconds then stops( same thing as trying to long with the palm diconected.) So I did and all the connections are fine. I have tried with another hotsync cable also and it says the same thing. The serial cable seems to be plugged in right. Theres a green wire in pin 1, yellow in pin 10, and black in pin 12. I'm not sure if thats how it's supposed to be or not(the cable came with the car.) Any one have any ideas?
Also...this is on a 92 awd laser.

any help would be nice.....I've never used the mmcd or the dsm logger before

i have mmcd but my cable is a plug and play no spade conectors or anything just clicks in place , ive never gotten that message, if your hotsync isnt working right click on the icon and configure ,then click on how you have it connected to the computer serial usb or whatever

is there a power wire going into the fuse box because the cable needs power to work.?

the cable doesnt need a power wire going to the fuse box to work. i made my cable and all it has is 2 wires coming out of the cable. the red one goes to pin 5 and the black one goes to pin 6. there is also a small length of wire that goes from teh pin 6 connector to another connector that hooks in to pin 8. i believe the wire that goes to the fuse panel is to run power to a switch if you have ABS and need to have the switch in line to prevent the ABS from disabling when you start the car.

I don't have abs. How do you go about making your own cable? I had one of my friends take a look at my cable last night and they said everything is hooked up right. I'm guessing the cable might be fried or it might be cut somewhere. Going to go check that out right now.

MMCd will give you one of two errors when it doesn't talk to the ECU.
Serial communications error - nothings was seen on the serial interface.
ECU communications error - saw the command it just sent go out but nothing from ECU.
Which error did you get?

I've posted the circuit diagrams for passive datalogger cables here for both Palm PDA and PC's.

Sorry but I'm not good with wiring diagrams. In the morning I will see what errors it's telling me. Do these pictures look right though?

I'm getting this as well.. ECU comm error in the test screen.

Wondering if there is a way to test the cable (using a voltmeter, check resistance or something like that? ha) I'm pretty sure I made the cable correctly (was kinda fun.. I like little electronic projects) and the connectors are nice and firm at the ALDL connector in the car.

Thanks

did you make it yourself... the wires might be in the wrong spots... with my ebay wire i got for my old 94 dsm i had to put in the wires directly to the obd1 connector and if i put the wires in the wrong spots then it would give the same error you are talking about.

it works when the wires are correct...

hopefully this is good enough. My camera sucks at close ups

Sorry for the dealy, I had a rest of problems here I needed to take care of including 3 computer failures and a electric speedometer in my daughters Stealth that decided to stop working. That turned out to be a spare harness in the rear quarter panel under water corroding and shorting the signal out. That was fun to troubleshoot. :)

You have a passive auto-on datalogger cable. Try connecting the black and yellow wires together to bypass the auto-on function. You can either do it at the cricuit board or at the DLC connector. If your logger starts working then it's a problem with the auto-on circuit.

Steve

I'll go ahead and try it. Is the dlc connector the one I cut open or is it the one that plugs into the diagnostics port? Sorry to hear about your daughters car. I just got my car back togather a week ago. Now the safc is messed up. The throttle signal wire isn't getting any signal.

The DLC is the connector by the fuse box that you plug into. What I was suggesting was that it might be easier for you to access the two wires at the DLC plug on the end of your cable. The back of that connector on your logger cable is open where the wires go in so you should be able to short the two (pins 10 and 12 on the DLC) there. The connector you cut open is the DB9 connector that your hotsync cable plugs into.

I have to find the schematic I made up for your cable and double check that the wires on the DB9 end are correct but try this bypass of the auto-on circuit first.

well I hooked everything back up and now its working. Thanks for everyones help
