okay heres my story. i bought a 1994 1gb non turbo 6 bolt swap for my daily driver. all it supposedly needed was a timing belt tensor, wrong the head was junk. no problem i get a another head took it to the shop to get it checked out and everything was good so we put it on my car and we have a few problems that hopefully you guys can help answer. I don't know a lot about cars ( my buddy knows dsm's pretty well and he is stumped) okay so heres the problem, we get it all together and drive it down the road and it is chugging very bad cutting out a lot and was not running well at all barely even drivable. so we put a data logger on there and it said that the cam angle sensor was at -15 degrees and was jumping around erratically. but the thing is we had it advanced at 5 degrees and i guess that didn't matter. when we were on out way back we could only go like 20 mph and that was giving it all it had. it has spark and good compression so do you know what could be causing it to act like this? maybe should we try another ecu?

Thanks

hmm yea i will try the reset with the battery. but my buddy set the c.a.s so idk how he did it but ill look into what you guys said. could the c.a.s be bad by any chance? im just trying to get some idea here :ohdamn:

is the top on your CAS plastic or metal?

If it's metal I would suggest changing it with a plastic black top one. The metal top ones are said to be optical and they are prone to giving problems. the black plastic top CAS' are said to be hall effect type and are way more efficient. they have a good number of black tops on ebay for like 60 bucks.
although you're driving condition does sound severe, your CAS signal should not be jumping around erratically, it should advance itself but thats all.

It could also easily be a engine timing issue. Definately check your timing marks 1st

hmmm okay i just looked and you all are right the timing marks are off. i dont understand how tho when we timed it up we hand cranked it a zillion times and the lines lined right up every time but not now. he has have timed up dsm's a millions times and never had one mess up.

Just be thankful that the timing wasnt off by much, it could have bent some valves. I'm glad you found the problem . I would also invest in a new timing belt tensioner... might as well be safe.

well i guess i jumped to conclusion too fast. the timing was not off. so i was checking maybe a fuel issue and we pulled off the gas hose that goes to your fuel rail and tried starting it very little fuel came out.. we tested out my buddys talon that runs and when we pulled his off and tried to start it gas came gushing out. so we are going to change my fuel pump tonight and hopefully fix it. but i really do appreciate all of your help, its been awesome! maybe once i learn a little more about dsm's i can help some people out too
