How hard is it to take the pully off for the water pump and drop the water pump while the motor is still in the car. I have the book for my car and it is a 92 talon tsi. I also have to take th harmonic balancer off as well, do i need somekind of special tool to do that.

You shouldnt need any special too to do either of those things. Its not that difficult to do. Just break loose the water pump pulley bolts before you take the water pump belt off. Read the book for water pump removal. It will be more detailed then anyone on here will be able to describe in words.

Just checking to make sure you know that you have to change the timing belt as a part of the job. The timing belt has to come off first, then you can replace the water pump, then put a new timing belt, new tensioner, new pulleys back on and tension the belt.

Thanks for the info but can I use the one thats one the car already it only has aboust 15k on it because before I bought the car he change all the belt on it.

He changed the timing belt without replacing the water pump also? Bad move.

You can re-use the belt if you want, personally I would just get a whole timing belt kit and replace all the pulleys and belts at the same time. Better safe than sorry.

It would probably be easier to break the water pump pulley bolts loose with the water pump/alternator belt still tensioned, other wise you with have to use a screwdriver to hold the pulley in place while you wrench on the bolts.

To get the hamonic balancer off, just remove the four bolts that hold it to the crank.

Be sure to keep the timing belt cover bolts in the exact hole they came out of, they are differnet lengths. I make a template out of cardboard then I poke holes through it and insert the bolts as I remove them.

I don't consider this job the easiest, but it can be done and is a good learning experience.

Make sure to read up on the timing belt procedure.
