driving with E-BRAKE

well today i was driving my 5 speed manual eclipse and i totally forgot to put the E-brake all the way down it was like half way and i was goin like 60 and started smelling sumting burning! Thats when i found out i left it on OMG the car still runs find and everythings in shape but theres just that smell on the brakes :confused: do u guys think i damaged anything on the brakes? the brakes work fine and ebrake still works properly im just making sure i didnt break anything .

The same thing happend to me when i was driving my parents minivan. Luckly i only went down the street to get some food and come back like 5 min later and i saw the ebrake was on. I was like o shit but every thing was good.
 
no need to mess with everything. Try this . . .

park your car where there is an incline and pull up the e- brake and the car in neutral. does it roll? If so, that is bad. I dont think adjusting the ebrake will fix the problem, but you might give it a try. If the car doesnt roll then you are ok.

Just make sure the incline isnt too steep so your car doesnt go careening into things. Or you can keep your car on and just drive away if the ebrake doenst hold at all.
 
if you didn't know you should take the wheel off you might as well give up. because your not even going to know what to look for. i pull up to red lights all the time with my front brakes burnings and smokeing becuz i like brakeing like that and my brembo rotors can take still with no warping. as for you, if you have rear disc and no squeeking from the wear sensor your most likely fine. and since you will probably have an all day project getting the wheel off, (if no squeeking from rear when brakeing) use a flashlight shine it in through a hole in the rim and see if there is heat stress cracks forming in the rotor usually they are hairline cracks running up and down or side to side depending how you look at the rotor if none your fine. if you have drums you probably did nothing cuz drum brake do just about nothing anyways. to test those you don't even have to take the wheel saves you a days work. as you are going down the road hold the but in on the e-brake handle and pull it up to slow down and feel for a grinding in none you are fine if not you a rear brake job.

ps to tell if you have drums or disc in the rear look for shiny metal behind the wheel when you look in if you see a shiny steel you have disc if no shine and you see something that looks like a drum on its side you have drums
