Alright, one cold night i pull into the driveway and set the e brake since im on a hill where i park and low and behold the next morning i let the ebrake off and it didn't quite release. Now when ever i drive anywhere when i take off you can hear the e-brake grinding in the back. I've tried doin like 20 mph and lockin up the brakes to try to release it but i dunno what else unless i have to take the whole damn thing apart (don't wanna) My gf's mom that gave me the car said there was some sort of thing you could do while driving in reverse like slam on the breaks to help the brake pad pop it out but i'm not sure if it'll work so i just thought i'd try here first.

Thanks,
Brett

You can usually just cut the wire, and/or manually pull it open. If not, taking it somewhere isn't a bad option, and sometimes, warming up where it's stuck a little bit can help them come loose.

Also, unless you're trying to work on your car or something, there's not much need for the e-brake. Parking your car in reverse is more effective at stopping your car from moving anyway. If you have an automatic, not only is an e-brake not all that necessary, but I would have to wonder why you would bother having an automatic dsm :p

Having an E-brake on an auto DSM is not worthless like you think. When you park in a hill , you put the E-brake first before putting the car in park, that way it release pressure from the tranny when you'll put your car in 'drive' the next morning, so you wont hear a big CLUNK, when going from park to drive  .

And for ATX DSM, look at my profile and tell me atx DSM's can't be fast ;)

Ok guys, i have a manual, and the reason why i was bothering was it's stuck on... not off..LOL i hear grinding when i drive and that's never a good thing LOL, i know its coming from the ebrake too cause u can hear it... i'm not against tearing shit apart im just at my girlfriends and don't have my tools or nething until i drive an hour back to my house.. but uh i understand in what's the point of owning an automatic dsm?:?? stupid if u ask me but whatever blows ur dress up. Thanks guys for the info but maybe i'll put it on the sidewalk and jack it up with me and my gf's spare tire jacks and take the wheel off who knos... but if there is anymore info on this just let me know...

Holy Bad Answer, Batman! OMG

I had a friend once who cut the ebrake off of his integra because he thought he didn't need it. He parked it on a hill while we were at a party. We came out, and his car was down the road lodged up under the front of a Suburban. We went over and opened up his car, and the gear shifter was still stuck in 5th.
I'd rather rely on my brake pads than my transmission to help keep my car still. I mean hey, if it's so useless, then why does every car Ever Made have an Emergency brake?

Like I said, if you're really that worried about your car rolling, put it in reverse. I didn't say put it in 5th...that's the WORST gear to leave it in. Reverse has the most gears involved, and since none of them are moving, it will do a considerably better job than the e-brake.

Also, you have to realize, I'm not saying "hey, everybody, cut your e-brake right now, you don't need it, and since it's not ####ed up, you might as well just go and #### it!". I'm saying, since his e-brake is STUCK (which in case you didn't know, is fairly bad for your car) cutting it, is always an option. I didn't say that was the only option, or even the best one, just an option.

I was glad to see that you're so intelligent, you found time to rag on someone else's suggestion, and tell us this really captivating story, instead of doing anything to help this guy whatsoever.

And in regards to Venom: I wasn't saying that an e-brake on an auto dsm is worthless, I was saying an auto dsm is worthless, and an e-brake is unnecessary in general for the most part. Only time I use mine is if I'm working on the car, and I need to have it running in neutral.

low: any luck w/ that yet? There's some other things you can do, and you can always give it a lil wd40, and pull the e-brake cable.
