92 tsi awd. horrible grinding noise it comes and goes and within one week its happened twice. it doesnt matter if i push the clutch.in or kill the engine or turn left to right and it grinds horribly like the clutch welded itself to the pressure plate or something ive done the obvious inspections but still coming up without results. i bought the car knowing that the clutch slips so i bought a clutch and the end of this week will be installed i dont wanna have it put all back together and still have the same issue dk if its differential or tcase or what. someone please lmk if they have experienced such a thing or any ideas open to all

lift the car ( all 4 tires off the ground ) spin the tires , listen for noises
Does it grind when trying to shift , any jerking when the grinding noise comes ? Did you check any of the fluids , Maybe there was a leak and its empty (transmission ,t case, diff)
I just had the same problem but with jerking turned out the tcase was empty (my own bad for not filling it when i changed my transmission

Sounds like it could be many things. It could be the throw-out bearing. There are many bearings on the car that could go bad.

It could be in the transfer case and, check the Lobro joint as well. If it studders some, this joint could be bad. It is just after the transfer case. Look up on youtube and Jafro made a section on it and how to check.

Sometimes, it could be a bad brake piston sticking or wheel bearing as well. Many things to check to narrow down where the noise is actually coming from.
