So what I understand my 92 tsi awd has a 3 piece driveshaft. My problem is when I bought my car, there was no rear diff, axles, driveshaft? I bought a 4bolt LSD and a set of Axles. The only driveshafts I can locate are aftermarket 2piece units and are way out of my price range. Any recommendations on a driveshaft solution?

balancing a 3-piece driveshaft is pricy, about $300, but an absolute necessity upon a rebuild.

Sorry to jack thread, maybe i can help op too tho. So if say, you were swapping to awd. Does the driveshaft need to be balanced? Just removing it and putting it back on? Im curious as i have a swap planned and the last thing i want is to get everything together just to have it shake itself apart.

If you just remove it from a donor car and put it it on your car without taking it apart you shouldn't have to balance it.

You would only need a balance upon replacing the u-joints and yolk. I just rebuilt mine. It's and insurance policy. They will even throw on a nice coat of paint. Here are some pics after my rebuild.
