I am having a strange driveline noise that only occurs under moderate to heavy acceleration. It sounds like a light crackling/growling noise. It feels and sounds like the noise is under the driver floorboard.

I can hold the brakes and give it some gas and after enough pressure builds the crackling starts even if the car is not moving. When I bought the car the transfer case was out of oil so that might have something to do with it.

There is sometimes a driveline clunk when putting the car into drive or reverse and the clunk is sometimes present when the trans. shifts under heavy acceleration. This is an automatic transmission, I would really like to know if this is something I need to worry about and would appreciate any help!

How are your motor/trans mounts?
If it was the TCase it wouldn't happen when you're not moving.

They are not good. The two main weight bearing mounts are almost falling apart. Could that cause the crackling noise?

It could, but I'd investigate further just in case. That could easily take care of your clunking though.

I changed out the upper motor mount and that took care of the crackling noise. I still have a clunk but it's not as frequent or as loud as it was. They sent me the wrong tranny mount but the old one wasn't collapsed in like the motor mount was so I think I'm not sure if it's even a problem.

The clunk still happens towards the front of the car. I checked the front u-joint and it's solid. Should I change the tranny mount just to be safe or is there something else I should check out first? I just want to figure this out and have peace of mind that the car won't lock up on the highway so any further help is appreciated!

I filled in my mounts with window weld and it took care of my problems!

How are your rear and front mounts?.

Are they good?.

There are four mounts, so check, all of them and replace them if need them.
