drive shaft removal?

i have a 98 GSX. my u joints are going bad in the driveshaft, and i was wondering if i could take the driveshaft out until i have enough money to buy the new u joints. but will my car still be drivable? ive heard that you can buy a coupling that goes into the transfer case so that you can temporarily disconnect the driveshaft for dyno use. i guess my question is will the car be drivable if i take out the driveshaft? will the rear end drag? do you need the coupling that i talked about? im new to the whole AWD thing.

that coupling was generated more so for the use of an AWD on a FWD dyno... never heard of anyone actually using it to drive on, personally i wouldnt recommend it, but i have been wrong before, just my $.02...

basically, i really need to change the u joints, but also the reason im asking, is because i was wondering if there is a way i can go around town and run FWD, and then when i go to the track have it AWD. i know about the switchable transfer case. but i was wondering if you could just take out the driveshaft. like i said, i dont know that much about AWD. is there a way to do it? or would it be a big waste of time and money to try?

Hey man I probally would not do that, and besides your car is AWD for a reason,
