Downpipes NEED FLEX SECTIONS

Okay so we have a lot of new people going turbo lately, and a lot of people making custom down pipes.

This is for all those people running down pipes, without flex pipes.

GET ONE!

Today I was getting a test pipe fitted, and my wastegate open dump tube re-routed into the downpipe, and getting a flex section put on. Well while we were taking off the downpipe I noticed that the mild steel was thining out and had actually cracked 3/4's of the way around where the downpipe bolts up to the turbo.

I was very lucky it wasn't my manifold that cracked.

I had been meaning to get a flex section ever since I got turbo'd but kept putting it off. I was really lucky that I hadn't put it off any longer.


Moral of the story:

If your running a star kit downpipe, or made your own custom downpipe. Make sure it has a flex section on it somewhere, or else.

yup yup....always good to have a flex section down in the bottom area after the curve around the oil pan

If you remember the discussions that went on about 2 years ago with the Star manifold being prone to cracking..... That was why, no flex.
