So my water pump was leaking and since I have to remove timing belt and all that I bought new timing belt kit to install new pump and everything else.

I started to remove everything to replace all but my cousin was helping me and after I told him not to touch anything, he ended up removing timing belt, which was ok until I realized that the dowel pins on the cams are facing down instead of facing up.

How do I turn them to face up to have them aligned without the belt?

Loosen the cam caps so that there is no tension on the valve springs. You won't hurt anything when you loosen them all the way. After all the caps are loose you should be able to turn the cams by hand to their proper position. Torque the cam caps back down to 15 ft/lbs. I would put a cam stop or some zip ties on the cam gears after that, not that they will move but it would be good to do so they don't move when you reinstall the timing belt.
Here is another thread about it - https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/cam-torque-specs.164453/
Marty

EDIT: Make sure that the motor is actually on TDC before you tighten the cam caps back down. If it isn't, you do risk possibly bending valves so just double/triple check that it is truly on TDC on #1 BEFORE torqueing the cam caps back down.

That is another way to do it. Since I have bent valves, I just wanted to suggest the sure fire way to NOT BEND VALVES.
Tony has a good idea if you understand what you are doing. If not, the cam cap method is sure to not damage anything.
Thanks Tony!

You’re right Marty! Idk if the valves would interfere. Also have to be careful since they are under tension when rotating cams.

So i am in the process of doing so but do i need to remove the CAS crank angle sensor?

No unless it is keeping you from rotating the intake cam. You want to keep it in phase. I am sorry that I am mainly a 1g 6 bolt guy so it may HAVE to come off. If you can get to all the cam cap bolts, try to leave it alone. :thumb:

It’s been a minute since I did but iirc the cam sensor does have to come off. Like Marty said, it does have to be in phase. There’s a thread here somewhere. Search 2g cam angle sensor

Tony probably is refering to THIS thread (post #348) or a very similar one.
Thank you Tony!!!
