DOT 4 Fluid for my clutch

Will anything be affected if I put in DOT 4 SYNTHETIC brake fluid in for my clutch? The reason I'm asking is because I am about to take out the restrictor for the clutch and I'm just wondering if I should stick with normal DOT 4 fluid.

This is for my 95 2gnt.

Read the label of the snythetic fluid. It should state if its alright to mix it with normal DOT 4. I would still not do it though.

Bingo.

Even if it's listed as "Okay to mix," the only way I would want to run it is after I flushed all remnants of the old stuff out of the system. Typically, they don't mesh well together. You're not going to really gain anything from switching, regardless. If you can tell the difference between the two, you've got magic feet.

I'm just asking because I called autozone and all they have is DOT 4 synthetic. I don't have any extra DOT 4 fluid laying around anywhere because I have never done the brake fluid in my car.

Ok listen up. Do not and I repeat do not introduce synthetic brake fluid into a system that has been running on normal fluid. Even if its says its ok to mix dont do it.

Reason being is that synthetic contains silicone.

If silicone is introduced into an older brake system, the silicone will latch unto the sludge generated by gradual component deterioration and create a gelatin like goop which will attract more crud and eventually plug up metering orifices or cause pistons to stick. If you have already changed to DOT 5 or synthetic DOT 4, don't compound your initial mistake and change back. Silicone is very tenacious stuff and you will never get it all out of your system. Just change the fluid regularly. For those who race using silicone fluid, I recommend that you crack the bleed screws before each racing session to insure that there is no water in the calipers.

Ok thank you. Thats what I needed to know. It says no silicon or petroleum based fluids should be put in in the car's manual. I just didn't know if synthetic had those in it.

You do know I am talking about putting it in for the clutch right? Not the brake system.

Yup, it doesent matter though. Except with your clutch it wont kill you when it stops working , maybe just your motor
