Door handles...Go figure.

So, today as I was getting ready to leave for school I come to find out that my door is frozen shut. I gave the door a solid tug and guess what...it came right off. So what I am wondering is where might I be able to find a door handle or a set of door handles for a 1g DSM. This is the outside handle itself, nothing is wrong with the inside....Just the typical P.O.S outside handle.

Dont go to a junkyard. 2G door handles are know to be shit. Check out ebay, or just do a google search. I would not recommend buying used door handles.

They may be used but they aren't that bad. A friend of mine broke his dor handle on his 96 gst and he replaced it with one from a junkyard and so far its been good with no problems.

If you are near an advanced auto parts they have the 2g handles i know. 19.99 for them. I believe they only carry the drivers side and sure u can order the passenger as well if ever needed.

I had the same problem. I bought one off of ebay but everytime I see it, I look at the black handle against the red. In any case, there is a fix for our door handles to help repair them. I even saw some of the kits on ebay. I'm tempted to fabricate the bracket and fix my handle to do away with the black and red look. You have several choices on this. I know that replacing the handle was a pita. I ended up buying a special screw driver because of the clearance issues in the door. It looks like this:

I dont recomend buying them off ebay!. I did and they dont fit, I tried two different suppliers and the damn things just dont fit right and they make loud noise when you pull them, Its like the Spring makes a screeching noise even though they are lubricated.

My drivers side exterior door handle broke off my 99 GS while it was still under warrenty. The dealership claimed that was the 1st time he had ever heard of that happening...I have been gentle with it ever since then...can't trust that ABS plastic...

Agreed, I still don't understand how in any way shape or form that it makes sense to use plastic on something you PULL on.....

Pull handle to pop the door open, then pull from the door...*sigh* rookies..

DId you know that if you have some silicone spray and a rag, all that you would have to do is drench the rag in silicone spray and wipe the weather striping down good. That should solve your frozen door syndrome.

I got mine off ebay for my 99 GS, painted it with autozone car spray paint, and it worked perfectly. It is a pain in the butt to get it on though. Prepare to spend an hour -hour 1/2 learning new cusswords. Unless you be smart about it and buy that tool.

Yes, as with most cars since the eighties, DSMs have plastic door handles. Thank you all for your continued insight on this matter.
