I did not over tighten them... this is how i got the engine (well running (sorta))

he said he replaced the head and did some mods to the block... all i know is that i broke my socket trying to take rest of bolts out... mind you this socket set was a xmas gift (for this year)

so i grabbed a torque wrench and just to check just kept increasing the ft lbs 10 at a time to see just how tight they were... stock rods mind you... they were at 65~70 0.o

previous owner clearly had no idea what he was doing

Just because it took 70lbs on your torque wrench in REVERSE to take it off, does not mean that it was torqued to 70lbs, first off a torque wrench in reverse is not accurate, if it ever was even in forward (and unless you paid $400 plus for it it likely wasnt) plus if it had torque to yield bolts in it or torque angle bolts in it, then it could take any amount to loosen them, especially after heat cycling...that rod bent first, being a factory tech for a living and having seen plenty of rod failures over the years I can tell you that wasnt a bolt failure that started that.

Even worse, it only takes approximately 80% of the torque to remove a bolt.... Some guys just shouldn't be allowed around tools.
