dome light blowing fuse

I am having a problem with my dome lights blowing my fuse and I need some things cleared up. I recently pulled my dash and disconnected my fuse box from inside and have already put it back everything back in. I forgot to connect the connector to the fuse block that runs the dome lights when i put everything back in.

When I finally went to hook that back up after i did the dome fuse under the hood blew so went into trying to figure out the problem. I took out the dome light bulbs and checked to see if they had power by setting my tester to volts. I had no power at the dome lights but when I checked at plug under the dash I had 12 volts at one of the pins (pin 2).

I don't know if that's normal and was wondering if anyone could help me.

You're getting a short in the line which is why its always blowing, check the dome light for crossed terminals, if thats not where the short is then its in another area so disconnect power and do continuity test to see which lines are bad, you have 12v from hood to dash meaning the problem is in the line from dash to light, hope this helps.

I checked resistance in all for of the lines and the all so about 1.25 when I check across them.

I'm right in thinking that there shouldn't be power coming from any of the pins right? From the wiring diagram I have the wires only go up to the done light and nothing else. Or did I read the diagram wrong?

So you suggesting I just follow the wire? I haven't done that yet because I have to take apart a few things to get a complete look and I haven't had the time.

1 side of the pin will have voltage so thats normal, but it sounds like once you put in the fuse and turn on the light it pops and that tells me that from the fuse box under your dash to the dome light something is wrong, ie bad wire, terminals touching box causing short, wrong fuse. Hope this helps.

I don't think I explained the problem to well. Let me try again.

There is a white plug with four cables that plugs into the fuse box under the dash. When I unplug that connect from the fuse box and test across those wires(not the fuse box) I get 12v coming from one of the wires. I then check for resistance across all four wires and it pulls what I stated in earlier post.

So from my understanding of the wiring diagram there should be no power to the white plug when its removed from the fuse box.

As for when it blows, I don't even have to have the dome lights on and it blows. I put a 15 amp breaker so I won't keep going thru fuses and even when I hold the door switch shut(meaning no lights on) and plug it in white plug it'll still blow.

ok then you are correct for saying you should not have voltage to the pin when unplugged, and thats why things are blowing because there are two feeds when there should be only one. Eliminate the power on the white wire and you should be in buisness, now you just need to find why and how it got there in the first place.

Ok thanks. I must have pinched a wire when I put the dash back in. I'll take a look and post back in a couple of days when I can take it out.

Lol yeah I thought the same thing for a while then I got tired of using my phone as a flashlight when I needed to grab something from the passenger seat.
