Okay, well I am now ready to do, or should I say re-do my 1996 GST Spyder. I have posted other threads to start collecting info on what products that will make my car what I want, that is so f@%king fast and superior handling. Here is a list of the products I am going to go with, so if you guys could put your 2 cents in so I make the right choices in products so that everything fits and I am not missing anything to get my car up to around 400hp or more if I can. So here it goes, again please feel free to correct my product selection and give me advice on parts that I might have missed as well.

Dejon Tools
1. Big Front Mount IC
2. UICP "Blow Thru" to use with GMAF 3" for BOV to blow into atmosphere.
3. Lower IC piping
4. Elbow for 16G turbo upgrade (depending on what turbo I go with, hopefully someone can help me with this?)
5. 12" AC fan
6. Blow Thru Intake Pipe with K&N Filter
7. K&N Valve Cover Vent Filter
8. MAF Translator for GMAF
9. Manual Dual Med-Hi Boost Controller (unless an elctronic boost controller is better for this set-up?)

Full Throttle Speed
1. Bolt on Fuel Pressure Regulator

Slow Boy Racing
1. SBR Cast Exhaust Manifold

I am also going with the following parts:
1. Ported 2G O2 Sensor Housing, (or will the EVO be better?)
2. Apexi turboback N1 3" Exhaust
3. Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
4. AC boost, oil pressure, oil temp guages
5. Turbo RFL BOV
6. OBX Short shifter

Unknown parts to go with:
1. Size of fuel injectors (680? or higher)
2. which performance clutch?
3. Should I go with a limited slip differential since it is a FWD?
4. What is the best logging software to go with?
5. ECM tuning?
6. new tranny?
7. Which Turbo to go with this setup, do I need a "non-stock exhaust manifold for a new turbo location?

Again, I want to do this right the first time, so I don't have to buy double parts and I don't have to change out parts again. :thumb: Any help is greatly appreciated! :) I want my car to have between 400 and 500hp depending on these parts that I install onto my car. So that means that some of these parts might be wrong, i.e. turbo, etc.

Please help, thanks for reading! :)

If you're going to spend all that money, might as well not skimp on the Short Shifter. Go with the B&M, not OBX.

Don't let anything with OBX on it anywhere near your car :D

I'd suggest an ACT 2600 for your clutch.

If you have the money, go with a rebuilt or new Shep tranny (www.shepracing.com)

..but it sounds like you're biting off a liiiiiiittle more than you can chew..baby steps, my friend! http://dsmtuners.net/tuning-guide/2gturbo/ Follow this :thumb:

"Baby steps through the door...baby steps down the hallway...baby steps into the elevator.........."

I am trying to use the tuning guide, but I don't want to get the wrong products, like too small of a turbo, the wrong exhaust manifold, etc. I want all the pieces of the puzzle to fit, and I hope that people can shed some light onto the list I have given. My car is in the custom shop right now, getting a new custom interior and stereo system, and I might as well finish up the engine and get the full cr ready for show by next spring. That is the goal, hopefully that helps in better describing my ideas.

ok well first forget the ported 02 housing and get an 02 eliminator exhaust.

save yourself some trouble .. get DSMlink drop the MAFT and recirculate your BOV. get a greddy type S

You could go with one of the FP turbos or like a AGP RS49 those should fir up to your manifold.

clutch like a ACT 2600 or maybe a centerforce dual friction

yes a LSD is a good idea

injectors maybe some 720's

get your tranny rebuild by shep

I think you also have a lot of reading up to do. You can't just throw parts at the car and think it'll work perfectly. I think if you read up on turbos and select the one you will be going with, it will be MUCH easier to put together the rest of your setup. Pick the turbo you want, tell us, and then we can provide more help! :thumb: :)

No, I was saying to use the Tuning guide, and install the parts a little at a time...Maybe like install half, then see if everything runs good..then install the rest. I really wouldn't install all your performance mods all at the same time.

yeah, well I want the car to be around 400 or 500hp, I don't know what the best turbo is for that setup. I understand that putting parts on one at a time or so, to make sure that everything still works good. I have until next Spring to do this all too. I just want to start now to get it done in time. Which turbo should I go with then, does the EVO Big 16G do the trick or for the Hp I am looking at does that just not cut it? Also, what would I need for the O2 Eliminator exhaust, I have just purhcased the N1, so what else would I need? I have been reading up for the past year now, and these are the parts that came to the fore front when all was said and done.

So what I am getting so far from all this (and good advice it is, don't get me wrong), is that on top of what I am already planning to do is:

1. fuel injectors to 720 or so
2. replacing the o2 housing with an eliminator (which one though?)
3. Data Logging software (but what one is the best?)
4. Take out the GMAF?
5. New ACT2600 Clutch
6. Shep tranny rebuild kit
7. which FP Turbo? Not the EVO 16G?

I really do appreciate all that has been said, I do want to do this right, and I completely understand that I cannot just throw parts at my car for HP, they have to be the right ones, and to do it slowly. I have been reading up on all these parts, and I just need some more info from other DSMer's who have been more around the block then I have. The main principle that I am trying to follow is that I don't like having to buy 1 exhaust manifold, then find out to replace the turbo, I have to replace the manifold I just bought, ya know? :thumb: My car is going to be down for all of this, so I might as well start with the right building blocks. Hope this makes more sense, i don't want to sound like one of those honda kids who thinks that putting anything and everything will make his car the pimp. :thumbdown

Well you don't need al that to run a E16g. I'd say a 20g or 50trim is in order. If you are gonna go with a e16g then 720's are way too much. 550's will suffice, but 660's will give you room to grow.

so a 20g or 50 trim is probably the best option? Any extra parts needed when going with that? i.e. a different exhaust manifold, 660 or 720 fuel injectors? What about the eliminator exhaust? What is the pricing on that? Does anyone have any answers for the other questions I have above? Thanks for the input on the 20g, I thought that the 16g would be too small. :thumb:

An evo3 16g isn't going to get you to the hp you're looking for. SBR managed a hair over 400 with it, and that's pretty much maxed out. An fp3052 is probably more in the direction of what you want, or maybe an SBR GT-11 or GT-12.

for datalogging, go to http://www.pocketlogger.com/ and click obd2.
id recommend a 50 trim. u can just port ur stock manifold and save some money. i have the dejon tool racing fmic and i couldnt be happier so dats a good choice. as far as dsmlink, i dont have it so i cant help u. as far as the gm maf, if u care about being loud with the bov do it. i have heard dat a gm maf decreases spool time and allows u to run either no intake pipe or a cold air setup so if i got it das wat i would get it for. for a 16g turbo go with 550s. if u go with the 50 trim, get 720s cause i have heard of 680s being almost maxed out on a 50 trim. Honeslty, if u have this much money to spend, id do a 6 bolt swap first.

I would suggest a FP green or a AGP RS49 for your turbo choice. Those can put down your goal HP. If you are looking for even more power FP Red or the AGP RS60.. though those would be overkill. Plus you will need a real strong block to run those.

Are you still running a stock 7 bolt? I would really suggest building a stronger shortblock if you want this kind of power to be safe.

I thought that the 1996 came with a 6 bolt?

I think that 400 hp or around there is the max I am going to go with though. I still want the car to drive well, and perhaps more horse power might be too much, I know i know, I can't believe I am saying it :shhh: , but let me know what you guys think. :thumb:

Turbo choice: 50 trim / FP 3052 or GREEN / SBR GT-11 or GT-12 / AGP RS49
For the goals I am going to go with (400 or close to for HP) I think I am leaning more towards either the SBR GT-11 or the GT-12. Is the Ballistic Series actually better?

Also, non-watercooled or watercooled? 7cm or 8cm better? Internal or external wastegate better? I do beleive that I will need a 90 degree elbow for my turbo setup as well, but I just wanted to be sure?

I think that I will go with the 720 injectors so if I ever decide on upgrading further then I am set there at least.

What about an O2 Eliminator? Right now, I have the Apexi N1 Catback exhaust, with the Apexi Downpipe (cat eliminator)

ECU Tuning? or will I just need to get a pocketlogger? Is there any choices when it comes to being able to hook it up to a laptop or computer. PDA vs. Computer? Which Palm is best for the requirements that my car will need? Or should I just go with the DSM link, do I not need to tune my ECU otherwise?

Thanks

I am pretty sure the 7cm housing is a good choice. doesnt matter how the turbo is cooled long as its hooked up right. External wastegate is better. Have them either mount it on the manifold or 02 eliminator when you buy it. I would go with DSMlink and use a laptop to tune it.

and 96 is a 7bolt.. only 6 bolts are in 90,91,and some 92s

That sucks then, ('96 a 7 bolt). What is the difference between 7cm and 8cm?

Where do I get an O2 Eliminiator for my Apexi N1 Exhaust?

So the 720 injetors should work too right?

as far as the o2 eliminator there is a catalog button up top that has 02 housing in the exhaust section you can check out. A popular one I see is the punishment racing o2 eliminator.

as far as the turbine housing goes normally the larger the housing the longer the spoolup but better top end assuming your turbo is big enough to take advantage of the larger housing. A 7cm housing is a good size for a street set up.

720 injectors should do you fine

I wouldnt worry too much about being a 7-bolt .. i mean each has its advantages. Most people like the 6bolts for the better rods and less chance of crankwalk. Though, the 7bolt has better pistons and higher compression.. so its a tradeoff.

Are you talking about the Punisher Tubular with atmosphere dump?

Also, what should I do regarding the ignition system, go with the digital MSD System?

What about repalcing the stock intake manifold? Is there much difference from stock versus aftermarket?

On a side subject, what about replacing the pulleys, is there a better brand out there, than the rest, i.e. AEM, etc?

Thanks again for all your help! :thumb:

no offense since I don't know you or your financial backround but you do understand right now your working up an impressive amount of parts for a guy who seems not to know much about what he is doing>? It is never a good idea to get everything at once because if you think about the logic, your taking your car from barely over 200hp to in your case 400-500hp. It's great thaT the car you own comes with some pretty strong internals but even so, crossing the 400horsepower line means investing lots of money into re-inforcing them to handle all the boost. BTW, is this your daily driver? If so, I would recommend toning the mods down a little and possibly sticking to a much easier/more reliable set-up. You would have quite a lot to worry about with a 500hp daily driver compared to a 300hp one.

But, since you are not ME, I will instead try to be helpful:
1. 50-trim or bigger for turbo choice
2. DSMLink for tuning (it will require you get an eprom ecu and a laptop though)
3. 720cc injectors sounds pretty reasonable
4. re-built transmission or for start, a much more powerful clutch
5. 6-bolt block + stronger internals; pistons, rods, cams, headwork, blah-blah etc.
6. lots & lots of $$$
You have the right idea otherwise and I will let other people give their opinions too.

-Good Luck :thumb:

All advice is good advice. Kraka I would rather hear the pro's and con's from other dsmer's rather than work on it myself. The only reason that I am asking all these questions is not that I am unknowledgeable, I have been reading up on upgrading my car ever since I got it a year and a half ago. I just don't want to get half way through doing these mods to find out that I have to go back and replace something I have already replaced. I should have said doing all these over the next 6 months rather than "Doing all these at once".

It is not my daily driver, but I would drive it on sunny days in the summer, etc. I do want a very dependable car, and if that means toning down the mods then that is way better in my book. If I were to just go to let's say close to 400hp, what is your guys' opinion on doing these mods. It will be mostly a show car, but i would love to drive it whenever possible. Let me know what you think.

the fp3052 and sbr GT-12 are pretty much the same turbo from a specs standpoint. Both are 52 trim compressor wheels, based on the GT30 chra. I prefer the design of the 3052, personally. It has an external wastegate flange right on the turbine housing. It also has the anti-surge ports.

As far as the advantages of the GT30, the ball bearing setup makes them spool quite a bit quicker. You also get far superior transient response.

Can't say on the water/nonwatercooled argument, don't know enough to comment on that.

7cm will spool faster, 8cm will flow more air at the topend.

External wastegate will eliminate boost creep entirely...there's the possibility of creep with an internal. If you decide to go the 3052 route, you're going external.

If you have any other questions, hit me up on aim and I can try to help you out...my sn is fixationpodium :thumb:
