I have been reading up on tuning for a while, but last night i finally got started. I read the definitive piggyback tuning guide. Please take a look at my mods. I set the SAFC to -12 across the board to compensate for 550ccs. I started my car of course all my trims were at 100%. I let it idle for about 15 minutes and the low trim went to 139%. I adjusted the SAFC at the 1k point to -18, and let the car run for about 20 minutes. It never changed. Should i have to wait longer that this. Also, did i correct this the proper way. I did need to take out more fuel correct? I just rebuilt my engine 500 miles ago, and the car runs like hell. When i first put it back together it ran pretty good, then i installed the gm mass & translator(blow thru). Every since then it has ran terrible. I have all the settings on it at 0.

Hey TurboTSI,

I checked out some of my tuning sources and it turns out your compensation is a little off. The common calc for that number is (stock injector size / new injector size - 1) so your compensation should be around the -18% range.

Also, I know you've probably heard this 1,000 times but you gotta check for boost leaks.

When I first got my GM MAF and translator I didn't have DSMLink and I attempted to tune my car VIA that. I then got DSMLink, I logged onto the forums they have and out of NO WHERE there's all this information about how the translator doesn't translate the signal very well and all it does is make the car run. I have spent endless hours changing airflow signals w/ link to get it to run well and it does now.

Change that compensation and let's see what happens with that. Thanks turbotsi and good luck.

Thanks alot man. How far are you in Maryland from WV? I am about 15minutes from the MD line on interstate 68 which turns into 70. If you are not far, and have some time on a weekend you should come up and help me out. I would really appreciate it.

Did you just sit there and rev to tune or did you actually drive and tune? If you didn't drive you will need to as your fuel trims will most likely be different when you do drive.

I'm 5 minutes from the PA border so it would be at most 2-3 hours to meet up. I'm still learning though man, I wouldn't help you much at all. Try reading the DSMLink manual from their website.. it has information in it that has more to do with tuning than the program so it'll help you even if you don't have the product.

If your low trim is at 139%, you are very lean and you need to richen it up, not take more out, which is why the trim didnt change. i would start off with the safc at 0 and take out fuel as needed.

Join the club buddy...

At -15% on 560's, my fuel trim stayed dead on 139% for the low, which is clearly hella lean...

So, I bumped it all the way to like -11% and still no movement, something obviously wasnt working....

So I just said F* it...I know my settings should be much higher than -15%, so Im basically at -16% across the board for low throttle...

I bought a AEM Wideband and I will be tuning based off real A/F numbers now...The fuel trims sure werent helping me, and WOT tuning with just a logger can be difficult also...Trust me, buy a W02!!

Thanks for the replies. I am definitley going with DSMlink, but i don't have an eprom ECU nor a laptop yet, so i am looking at alot of money to upgrade. I haven't looked into wideband much. That might be a better way for me to go right now.
