We've set the timing about 10 times on this car already when we are cranking it some times the oil pump will be off timing, then we keep cranking it and it falls back in timing with everything else, but it never stops spinning doesn't jump a tooth or anything. also how do you put your timing belt on. crankshaft then oil pump then cam gears? cause we have been doing it the left side came gear then right then going down to crankshaft then oil pump, and i don't know whether it's just not falling to time

from vfaq...
"Rotate the crankshaft clockwise and align the timing marks so as to bring the No. 1 piston to the Top-Dead-Center (TDC) position of the compression stroke."

they will only line up when #1 pistion is @ TDC of the compression stroke

right, weve been been rotating the crankshaft clockwise to make sure the #1 piston is tdc then we start at the top to put the belts on it

It can take up to six turns of the crank for all the timing marks and phasing of the balance shafts to line up correctly when you grab a random engine. Once you have it lined up it will take six turns before it's all lined up again.

I forget where in the manuals they show you all the sprocket tooth counts and the reduction drive of the lower balance shaft from the oil pump but once you do the math on what sprocket spins at what speed you see why everything only lines up every sixth turn of the crank.

ok could my cam shafts not be timed right, cause im getting white smoke out of the exhaust when i try to start it up but its jsut not starting , its turning over and everything is spining but its not starting up , sounds like it wants to , im getting spark fuel, dont know abut compression cause i did a compression test yesterday and its 0 across the board which leaves me to belive the timing it off, cause u cant hear any of the valves hitting or even feel them hitting the pistons and what i think is not timed right is the camshafts if that makes any sense even though im lining up the cam gears with the respected lines and then taking a straight edge to the lines is it possible the shafts arent in time, i have all the timing marks lined up righ tnow and the #1 cylinder valvers are both open(i.e the bumps on the cams both exhaust and intake are straight up )

ding ding ding we have a winner, the valves lost this fight between the pistons, LOL pulled the head off today 16 nice bent valves waiting for me should be ready to put the head back on tom wish me luck
