does test pipe even help?

What kinda setup should i get guys. I want an o2 eliminator pipe and test pipe to hook up to my greddy SP exhaust. but if i do the o2 eliminator, what if i want a dump tube down the road? or an external wastegate, id have to get a new downpipe wouldnt i? should i jsut get a downpipe cat eliminator insted and upgrade my o2 housing later?

i got a 19C junior frank on now but want to upgrade to a 20G or bigger in about 4 months or so.

i know people bi*** and moan about rnr, but they have a good downpipe, im almost done wai9tign for mine which includes a test pipe and some flanges so i can mod my cat, they can build most anything you need

what i heard is that IF u have an catback wit headear and downpipe there will be no big diference between test pipe and high flow cat .5hp max between them.So feel safe and run a High flow cat.
I remeber when I instaled my header and my down pipe but forgot the cat at the shop so i had to go to the shop and get it.The think is that i went to the shop with out of cat and with out of the whole cat back.
The car sounded so laude but man I could realy feel the power.U should try driving for a bit with header and down pipe only.It is fun as hell and the RPMs rev so ####in fast to the red that I felt my N/A like it is turbo.:D

Hell yeah!!!! I am still pretty stock and you can certainly feel a diff at WOT and even with my stock ex I now have a deeper throatier note. I can't wait to get an actualy ex system now. DO IT!!!! The only pain in the ass was getting the old cat off. Got mine from racing pipes.com and it fit perfect.

Yeah but the difference is that i'm turbo and your not. I also don't have headers. N/A cars are so loud with an exhaust, it's just damn annoying. You don't gain much hp anyways. Most of you guys that put huge exhaust systems on you N/A lose power b/c you have no back pressure. A cat is actually i good thing to have for a non-turbo car. Turbo cars gain double or more what any N/A would with just an exhaust. Not to bash N/A anymore but if you think your N/A felt like turbo with a exhaust you might wanna get a ride in a turbo again to make you change your mind.

word, the principle of turbos is a difference in pressures, so no exhaust is the best exhaust, but strait large pipes are a second best

well guys, the thing here is a high flow cat is like 250 bucks opposed toa race pipe/test pipe which is 50 bucks from extreme motorsports.....id rather have more power for cheaper and get some friend to sign off my emmissions =). See my question was which is the better combo? im not gonna just get a downpipe cause that would b a waste when i could get an eliminator of some sort. either the 02 housing or the cat.

will the test/race pipe make such a loud noise id get pulled over and inspected? cause i dont have 200 to spend on some ### high flow cat when i could jsut get a race pipe and no one would be the wiser except me...

i'm putting on a test pipe b/c i'm later going to get a hahn racecraft external dump downpipe. Have any of you guys seen it? Its soooo sweet!!!:D

DUDE My95Tsi PLZ read what Im saing. I said that it felt like it is turbo cuz I was driving with out of the whole CAT BACK(NO CAT BACK) only header and downpipe. That is why i said it felt like it was turbo cuz the RPM were reving so fast. And I do have a catconvertor.

I finally got the test pipe on!!! I couldn't get the 4 bolts on the cat off so I brought it to a local mineike to have them heat em up and break them loose. The only problem i have is that i put a 2.5 inch exhaust gasket on between the 2.5 inch test pipe and the stock downpipe which causes a minor exhaust leak that putters alittle at idle, so i need at 2.25 in gasket. But wow do i notice a difference in sound and top end power. Its amazing b/c my catback didn't even do as much as this testpipe does. Another thing i notice is that i get alot more exhaust fumes coming out the back at idle. Is this normal to get alot more smoke out the back? It never did it with the cat on so i'm guessing its just emissions, but i hope it doesn't give it away when a cop is sitting behind me at a stop light. And damn what a weight reduction too! That cat is heavy as hell!!!

Got mine on. Huge difference between my 3" hi-flow and the test pipe. I'm running a Big16g but I'm sure it would make a big difference on the stock turbo as well. I noticed a little spool difference, a lot more top end power, it's throatier at wot, and I get mad boost creep now :(. Definitely worth it.

what setup should i get?!?! i can get one like in 2 weeks, should i get o2 eliminator and test pipe, so i can swap out my test for a high flow cat for emissions?

or get a cat eliminator so i can have a custom o2 housing with external dump for when i get a bigger turbo? what u guys think?!

and where can i find either setup used for cheap thats good?

i just installed my test pipe on my stock exhaust

2 1/4" pipe from autozone- $2.49
(2) 2 1/4" flanges from local mufflers4less - $8
gatorade - $1.19
30 minutes of welding and 10 minutes of installation

fairly easy, and i can definatly see/feel/smell a difference, even on the stock exhaust. in 4th gear, i hit full boost at 2700/2800 rather than 3000. i planned on using the stock cat for the flanges, or a junk cat from a junk yard, but since it is cast iron i was unable to. i can hear the cams thump twice as loud. also, nothing like the smell of fuel while sitting at idle :)

adam you want to see if we do that to my car. do you have a welder. i unbolted my exhaust after the downpipe the other night and damn waht a difference. hella loud too. me and my wife drove 5 minutesd to the movies after that and damn. we smelled like gasoline by the time we got there.
