So i have a 91 tsi awd. the car idles well runs well no smoke no codes replaced the ecu fuel filter plugs maf and iac to get a good idle. it now will drive fine and rev under wot up to about 5k then seen like it is just breaking up and does not want to go any more. im thinking maybe the cas is bad or is it just the valve springs are wore out and can't take high revs. any help is greatly appreciated.
 
If you search for an answer you will find that 90% of the people who have this problem have a boost leak.

Ok i found 11.06 psi stock. not reaching that is probably from not able to rev very high i think

my car was only seeing 9 psi of boost ( aftermarket boost gauge) you have a boost leak for sure or your waitegate spring is weak

Not all cars get that boost, every car is different, I have seen go to 12psi of boost on a stock car and a lot of others go to 11psi, so it means that your car has a leak?.OMG
 
You say you have done a BLT? What psi did you test it up to? Just because your gauge says you are building X amount of boost doesn't mean you don't have a boost leak.

If you really have done a proper BLT the next thing I would check is to make sure your plugs are good and properly gapped. Also like mentioned above it wouldnt hurt to make sure your tps is properly adjusted.
 
I am having a similar problem except that my engine light will turn on at that point and the code said it was a throttle position sensor. I'm curious though about how to adjust or test it just to be sure. how would i go about doing so?
 
I had the same problem. Was soo overwhelmed with joy to find that a part of my piping had a loose elbow clamp on it... damn self unscrewing screws!
