Does not want to downshift

I am not quite sure what is going on with my a/t. Sometime last week I noticed that if I dont come to a complete stop and go to take of again the car seems like it has not downshifted back into 1st gear and stays in third. But if I come to a complete stop everything works fine has anyone ever encountered such a problem. My car is a 1997 Eagle Talon Tsi awd all stock with 113,259 miles on it

Did you try downshifting manually?

Yes I have and it works fine if you do it manually.

This might be a stupid question but have done a fluid and filter change??????
