Does clutch slip affect all gears?

Toronto,
I was practicing launching the car with the ACT 2600. I think I dropped it a bit early and was greeted by the slight stench of clutch burn (not too bad.) Then I got to thinking, if I were to experience clutch slip, would it affect through all the gears at the same RPMs?

A clutch at the end of its life would result in slipping am I right?

Thanks.

I launch properly now :)

slipping it a little from a launch isn't a big deal if you only did in once. but if it starts slipping it will actually happen more in higher gears because there is more of a load on it even though the rpms are lower.

yup 3rd n 4th probably slip the worst on a bad clutch and 2nd when at full boost sometimes. but the launch isn't to bad on it something has to give and your awd so they got great hook so the next thing to give is clutch or to brake a joint or axle or transmission like me. :dsm:

Well, I noticed that car doesn't pull as hard in 3rd as it does in 1st and second starting from 2k RPM. Even when full boost kicks in @ 4k it doesnt feel nearly as fast as in 1st/2nd. I'm not too familiar with the feeling of clutch slip though. Is this just a loss in power? I know AWD's actually lose power at higher speeds, so I'm not sure if it's just the physics of AWD or if im slipping. Slipping = Stench of death? OMG

You will know when your clutch slips, the engine rpm's will go up fast and the car won't really accelerate much. Think of it like accelerating with the skinny peddle on the floor than pushing the clutch peddle in, but you don't actually push the clutch peddle in. Don't push the clutch peddle in while doing this!!!!! :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono:

After about 120K on my stock clutch, it started to go. It would slip in ANY gear. When I was on the freeway in 5th I had to be careful, too much gas and the engine would rev up and the car would go no where.

You probably already know this but remember when launching, to keep the turbo above atmospheric pressure...don't just hold a fixed idle, rev it continuously to keep the turbo spooling. I used to race my buddy after work daily, he had a similar setup but a GS-X and I always took him off the line. :thumb:

You mean rev @ xxx rpms before dropping the clutch?

To answer your question, yes the cluthc can start slipping in all gears, but you'll likely notice it before its noticeable in 3rd and below.

i knew i bought my car with a shitty clutch, but after a while, in 3rd or 4th when i hit full boost, the rpms would just redline and the car wouldnt go any faster, and then you had a raunchy smell that smelt like fish and coolant that lingered in the cabin for days. after a while, it got to the point where any medium acceleration in 2nd or 3rd would run the rpm's up as the cluch was just giving up on life.

a couple hundred bucks and a act2100 later, and the car was so much better, felt like a new car again, even around town you could just feel the difference a clutch that grabs makes over a stocker that doesnt.
