2G Do you need a harness or anything like an 'install kit' when installing a 7" BOSS Bluetooth In-Dash Digital Media AM/FM Receiver with a backup cam

I'm looking to get a BOSS 7" Bluetooth In-Dash Digital Media AM/FM Receiver with a camera installed in my 95 GST. I have those parts on the way but I am just wondering do I need any of those special harnesses or install kits? I heard they were all pretty much trash quality so I wanted to see what you all think

Crutchfield Crutchfield Crutchfield! Best Lifetime customer service in the business for many decades. You get great master sheets for your vehicle too when you buy from them. Sorry I know this doesn’t apply to your purchase. Just sayin.

Yeah I heard great things about them!

Do you guys think I'll end up needing this

If your head didn’t come with a harness to connect to the factory wires, then yes. Normally you have to order these separately specific to your vehicle.

Yes you wire to the head and it’s plug and play into the factory harness for the most part. Steve is correct you don’t want to hack into the factory harness. Newer vehicles are more complex but these are very simple. It’s been 25 years since I wired a stereo on a DSM, but I think you’ll need to tap into a “remote” or ignition source to switch the head on. Unless you want to tap into a constant power source for the remote wire as some of us did, but be careful, kill a battery real quick that way especially if pushing any power.

Nice thank you so much for the info I appreciate it!

Do you know if I need anything like a Dash install kit or is this all pretty much all I need?

It’s been so long I don’t want to misinform you here. Maybe someone else could chime in..?
Factory has two single DIN units and you’re replacing them with a double DIN. I never did a double in one of these cars (yet) as many have on here. Not sure if they even make a kit for that. All depends on how finished or clean you want it to look I reckon. Could always make something depending on your skill set.

The dash install kit is when you don’t have a double din. Like someone said before, work with crutchfield. They are a great company located in the USA and they offer fair prices. They sell boss products and can sort you.

I’ve been using crutch field for over 20 years for home and car audio/infotainment. I did a Jenson double din in a 1g which is arguably more difficult.

So you're saying you keep going down the only road you've ever known?

Would you say that you were a drifter? Born to walk alone?

Well, I've made up my mind. I ain't wastin' no more time. Gonna order from Crutchfield soon as the little niggling drivability things are done with the Talon.

Just ordered a new sub from them for the home theater as the current one’s internal amp is shitting the bed. I love being able to call them 15 years after a purchase for tech support and they immediately know who I am and what equipment I’m referring to. They’re not always the cheapest for sure depending on what you’re in the market for but that’s not why you go to them. In this instance I think I did pretty good though, got a Klipsch R-120SW for 320.00 off retail. Sometimes they have great deals!

Thanks for the reply! I am working with their site and they are saying the unit which is a 7" unit isn't compatible meanwhile a similar unit which is 9" is compatible from the same manufacture so I'm just double checking stuff to be on the safe side.

Give them a call. They will line you up with an expert. Let them do the work, don’t do it yourself.

I'm going to do a live chat with them but here's the thing and I'm not trying to sound negative

I'm likely dealing with customer service reps that are just doing their job they don't know as much about these cars as you & I do since we're the owners we do know a little bit more

On their site they advertise this 7" model doesn't fit (but a 9" model does? LOL)

I got this unit from eBay so I pulled it out the box and it just fits like a glove

One question if I may ask, why is it more difficult to do a 1G than a 2G? I just wanted to know
