Do i need to do the rewire trick on the fuel pump?

Hey guys i'm running a walborro 255 pump on my car, i'm going to b ordering the fuel lab kit for my car tonight or tom. do you know if i have to rewire the fuel pump then? Heard something about the fuel pumps are lookin for 14 v and the presure doesn't hold steady if you don't rewire it. thanks for the help

Well when you do the rewire it gives the pump constant voltage( mine is getting about 13.1volt compared to the 12.4 i was getting)and when working and modding a car for big power starving the motor for fuel because of a short in the wiring due to age cant see that being good. Plus you get more out of the fuel pump.

I would recommend it. The stock wires with boost hold about 11.8v. It's a cheap fix, and would rather be getting the full potential of my fuel system if I'm spending some money on it such as yourself. (255/FPR) May as well do it correct the first time instead of chancing there being a problem down the road. Hope this helps!

Heavier wire provides more voltage due to less resistance. More voltage equals higher output. If you don't need higher output you can wait on upgrading the wire.

I would recommend doing the re-wire on the fuel pump. Doesn't take very long, very easy, and is not expensive at all.

Depends on your goals. Do you plan on going WOT on anything higher than 20 psi for longer than 1 minute? If yes, then do it. I just did it over the weekend. Frustrating at first cause I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working till I singled out the fuse holder went bad. Brand new too.

I can't say whether or not it is needed for your goals but like others are saying it does provide some insurance and peace of mind that you won't have voltage dependent fluctuations of the fuel flow. I wondered the same thing but am now glad that I did it. Look through this thread for my before and after results.
