If im just replacing my pistons. Do I need to do anything to my bottom end? My number 1 cylinder piston broke apart on me. The side skirts on them broke and a piston ring came off. If I just Clean the bottom end and just replace them with new pistons and rings, replace my head gasket since im over there. Should I be good?

If you blew a ring landing you will almost defiantly scored up you cylinder walls. Worst case senerio is you need .020 over pistons and an overbore, which you might possibly have to do. Take the engine apart and see for you walls are in good shape and your crosshairs are still good. Dont trust you better judgement than take it to the machine shop.

Yea, if you broke a piston and rings came loose you need to inspect the cylinder walls.
Agreed.

Also, I would definitely put in new bearings while you are in there.

I do not know if 4G63 pistons would fit or any other turbo pistons for that matter, but I would research to find out. Maybe they make forged pistons specifically for a N/T with bigger ringlands, but I do not know. Because while you are in there I would definitely upgrade the stock N/T pistons.

As of right now. Im not going to upgrade anything on that engine. Just going to replace parts...Its my daily driver and I cant wait for it to ship if I order parts. But Ill inspect it tomorrow if I have enough time. But I will let you guys know

Ok also I need help on replacing rings on the pistons, How do I calculate what side I need to file down the rings? If my bore is STD size? Ive read that if you have turbo you'd want to use a diffrent method on filing down the rings. Also what if my bore is .20?

You use the same gapping as stock. What ever it saids in your FSM for a NT 420A. For my turbo 1g. I have mines gapped at .020 for the 1st ring and .022 for the second.
